December 30, 200816 yr Congrats on ringing your fist bird! SA huh? To good for Victoria??? just kidding SA need all the help I can get. :bluebudgie: that should get a discussion going!
December 30, 200816 yr Author Mt Gambier club was 45 mins away and Horsham 2 hours so the decision was clear. Also having Nigel Tonkin himself as a mentor, how could I lose? The chicks ring fell off but I'll try again tomorrow, I'd just hate to be too late and it didnt fit!
December 30, 200816 yr I'm not sure if there is a rule on which leg it has to be rung on... might wanna check that out before you ring it again... How far are you from Warnambool??? was checking out a couple of breeders down that way not long ago...
December 30, 200816 yr Don't matter what leg the ring is put on. It comes down to personal preference. If you get to Warrnambool see if a guy name Geoff Lowe is still there. Nice chap very knowledgable.
January 2, 200916 yr Author Chick number 4 arrived on New Years Eve a T.C.B. so now I have two of each. There is still one egg left unhatched and I have candled it but can't see any signs of movement. Will leave it there for a few days and see. The first chicks ring has fallen off three times but I think after today it will stay. I seem to have to put 3 toes forward and one back when putting the legring on instead of the usual 2 forward and two back which is very hard to do and I feel it would damage this particular chick if I was to do it this way. The breeder I got its parents from rings his this way so maybe it is better suited to this line of particular Budgies?I will post some chick pics soon, camera is charging after N.Y.E. photo's! January 2, 200916 yr Don't matter what leg the ring is put on. It comes down to personal preference. If you get to Warrnambool see if a guy name Geoff Lowe is still there. Nice chap very knowledgable. Â Geoff Lowe was chucking it in for health reasons but They put him on good medication and he is doing better so is is keeping some of his birds, a lot of his birds went to auction a couple of months ago and our club was going to buy his show boxes but he is going to continue for a while. He is a very nice man and very helpful is very keen to help our club out seems it is a small country club.
January 2, 200916 yr Thanks splat for the update on Geoff Lowe. Glad to hear he will be hanging around for a while longer yet.
January 2, 200916 yr Thanks splat for the update on Geoff Lowe. Glad to hear he will be hanging around for a while longer yet. Â I wanted some of his birds at the auction but couldn't get there but they went for a good price, out of my price range anyway.
January 2, 200916 yr Author Hope this isn't..... Â Arghhhhh legring fell off again! I am worried as it was so hard to put on the last time I tried. Â Chick 1= T.C.B, born late on 25th Dec or early 26th (Trapped in shell). Chick 2= Albino, born 26th Dec. Chick 3= Albino, born 28th Dec. Chick 4= T.C.B, born 31st Dec. Egg 5= Unhatched.
January 4, 200916 yr Author Ooh exciting! Two of each! Is egg 5 going to hatch do you think? Â Â Egg 5 has been pushed aside a few times now and I dont see any signs of life at all. I will leave it another 2 days and the remove it. I think it is dead in the shell though. All others are thriving and two are now rung!

January 4, 200916 yr Author this is so exiting i have been waiting for news of your chicks can not wait to see pics of chicks and mum and bad again dad is lovleycon grads   Hey there GenericBlue...The wriggly little thing was hard to photograph. My good camera broke and is being repaired, I took a couple of pics yesterday on an old camera but they aren't the best here they are anyway:  This is the firstborn chick born on boxing day it is a Texas Clearbody. Â
January 5, 200916 yr congrats on your babies Trish- it is normal to have 3 toes forward 1 back to ring your chicks, not so normal to go 2 front 2back.
January 6, 200916 yr Author Just an update on the Chicks and photo's. I still haven't got my camera back from the repairer and this is the best I can do. Camera is only 2.2 Megapixels and almost non existant zoom! Â Â Mummy and chicks in the nestbox: Â CHICK 1 (11 DAYS OLD) T.C.B. Â Chick 2 (11 DAYS OLD) ALBINO...not sure if I should be worried about splayed legs at this age? Please feel free to comment on what you think. Â CHICK 3 (9 DAYS OLD) ALBINO Â Chick 4 (6 days old) T.C.B. Â Â
January 6, 200916 yr J Â Â Â CHICK 3 (9 DAYS OLD) ALBINO Â Â Are my eye's playing up or are these rings not going all the way around the chicks legs??
January 6, 200916 yr Author I forgot to mention, this breeding has been very much a family affair and my eldest daughter has made a littel coffin and plans to float it down the river behind our house tomorrow. Tonight she has surrounded it with roase petals and it is "sleeping" beside her bed :angel1: Are my eye's playing up or are these rings not going all the way around the chicks legs??No its my stupid blurry camera, it is a blurred toe in the way that is making it appear like that.
January 6, 200916 yr J Â Â Â CHICK 3 (9 DAYS OLD) ALBINO Â Â Are my eye's playing up or are these rings not going all the way around the chicks legs?? Â I think it is your eyes. I think honestly it is an optical illusion. It looks like the band stops and does nto go all the way around, but really, stop and think "could another toe be in the way?" Â What you are seeing is a toe facing backwards
January 6, 200916 yr What is the coffin for? Is it for the egg? I may have missed something somewhere. Â I am not sure about splayed legs -- the only one I ever had with a splayed leg was a lot worse than yours. But if anything, that photo makes the first one's legs look worse than the second?? I hope someone can tell you whether it's enough to worry about or not, I know it's definitely not as bad as the one I had, and we even tried splinting her legs and stuff and hers was worse than yours even after that, so yours is probably nothing.
