T.c.b. And Albino Together To Breed.

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi there,

the T.C.B. cock and the Albino hen have been put together tonight with their new breeding box. I have been told that this mix of hen and cock should produce T.C.B. babies? So far the hen is preening the boy and they look very cosy, it is so cute! I have put kitty litter in the breeding box and will be also putting in rolled oats. Their cage is quite big, I have 5 of them now set up side by side but only these guys are set for breeding as I though I'd better crawl before I walk (better for a first time breeder).

I was wondering what to expect now?

Any advice is very welcome,

Trish :(

Great cage... a couple of suggestions I can make:

I'd remove the perches which are in there and replace with some natural branches going from front to back (either end of the cage, thick and thin. This is better for their feet, and giving them the ability to fly back and forth, gets the in the mood, so to speak! lol

Also, can the cage front be removed, turned upside down, and re-attached? Budgies prefer high nest boxes. If you were able to do this, the small door where the next box is now, would be up the top, not down the bottom. I'm not sure how easily this can be done though. Also, have the perch which is down that end finish near the entry to the nest box to allow for easy access.

Make sure they have plenty of soft food-veggies and hard boiled egg-mixed in. Access to calcium and/or add it to their water...

Now... just wait... and GOOD LUCK! :(

Agree with everything that Maes has said!!!

Especially the NEST BOX

I was going by what I saw on here when designing and tried to follow what Kaz had done (see below) to try and adapt as best I could with mine. The hole for entering is actually a bit higher but now looking at Kaz's I see that she has in fact turned the fronts upside down! Arghhhhhh :bump: I thought I had it all sussed and now I have to hassle hubby again and the poor budgies!

Daz is no longer on, so I will answer for him as I use these nestboxes that daz made. I extend the perch inside. Without it the hens struggle to get out of the nestbox. I dont use concaves in mine ( I use kitty litter and pine shavings ) and I think Dav uses concaves in his. The hens do not land on the eggs and break them.

The ispection area for checking the chicks is it a sliding lid or sliding back or a door? Do you have a picture of this area. I am building one with Dave (my husband) later just want to give him a good desigh. I will post pics when I am done.

Thanks Kaz for your help.

The top section of door slides upwards.

It's all good... :bump: Kaz's has her's upside down too... If you only just put them in the cage today, it's probably okay to try and change is asap... and it shouldn't interupt them too much... It's best to get it all right now before she starts laying. GREAT size cages though!!! Plenty of room...

GREAT size cages though!!! Plenty of room...

Yay! I'm glad I have someting right! I thought it better to outlay a bit extra on bigger cages in the beginning after reading the bonuses on here. I will fix it all tomorrow, can't expect to have it all right at once!

Again wonderful advice on here as always!

Well we are nearing a month now which I thought was time for an update.

The pair have bonded well and as my first time breeding it has been a lovely process but also one of trial and error. They have done everything right but its their silly owner that needs to learn a thing or two!

For this entire week the hen has been visiting the nest box and today I found an egg accidentally laid on the floor and a little bit of poop on top which would suggest that maybe it was accidental.

She is still spending a lot of time in nest box playing with the shavings and possible has another egg coming? I am now administering calcivet as the first egg was soft shelled and I am hoping she improves. Ill keep in touch,

Trish.

thank you for the update, good luck

Another egg found on the floor today, the upside being that the shell was considerably harder than the other one which means that the Calcivet must be getting in? I placed the empty shell in the nestbox to show the hen that this is where it is supposed to go. I hope this works :P

good luck, sorry to hear about the egg, glad to hear they are getting harder...

good news and I hope the hen gets the point

today's the day!!! should be seeing some action soon... hopefully she'll lay in the box...

Oh I soooo want one of the babies!!! Keep me posted!

I just got back from Melbourne, had an early Christmas with the inlaws (outlaws) in Healesville. We left yesterday (6 hours drive) had dinner, pressies etc and came home today very tired but soon was very hyper and running around the house yelling.....

I got an egg, a HARD egg laid in the BOX! Wooo hooo!!!

The hen is sitting in there like a good girl...sweet little thing!

Thankyou all for the well wishes! I hope that all goes well from here, I am not sure what happens next? I will have to do some more reading. I am the sort of person until its been experienced it doesn't stick, I'm sure I've read a few times how long incubation takes but cant remember now!

I will think of you Jwancia and hopefully you get more Bush Bubs and maybe we could trade!!

I am so tired from travelling but am glad thats half the family Christmas over because I need to concentrate on my pending arrival/s!

So exciting I am over the moon! I have my egg torch from Kaz I wonder what else I dont have that I need to stock up on? Any ideas?
