November 6, 200816 yr Hmm... hopefully soon! Good luck! Can't wait to see photo's of little bush bdgie chicks.
November 6, 200816 yr sometime it takes a few days for an egg to drop but I find once they start doing that big sloppy poo {I forget the real name for it} but once they do that then it is only a day or two before the egg appears.
November 6, 200816 yr You have to remember they are pretty small birds so I would imagine the egg is going to show alot more... I wonder if the eggs are alot smaller in comparison to pet type/show type eggs... Interesting...
November 6, 200816 yr Author AGAIN, Still hasent laid but not looking stressed or panting or anything. Earlier today I ran her bum under warm water just in case.
November 7, 200816 yr Author I HAVE AN EGGG!!! MY FIRST EGG! :party0011: :party0011: Â EDIT: Also, she has laid the egg on the other side of the box than what the concave is. Soooo... what should I do? Should I put in a big coffee jar lid (oh no maybe not, she might tip that over....)... Im worried she is gonna get some rolly pollys. November 7, 200816 yr I HAVE AN EGGG!!! MY FIRST EGG! :party0011: :party0011: Â Â YAY......congrats, how eggciting!!! Can't wait till I find my first egg! :bliss:
November 7, 200816 yr Terrific news I am very happy for you. Leave the egg...she will place it where and when she wants. Best not to handle eggs.
November 7, 200816 yr Congratulations!!! Is it tiny??? lol  My hen laid all her eggs right inside the door under the entry hole!!! Where is the 'door' on your nest box? I have the ones that the lid slides up. I found my Hen didn't like sitting in the concave as it was near where I opened the door. I simply got a small length of wood, not real thick, and stuck in down just inside the door. As soon as i did that, she was happy to stay where she should... maybe she thought the eggs would roll out when I opened the door???
November 7, 200816 yr Author The nest box opens from the top. But the concave is under the entry hole. Will it be okay just to leave her to nest on the flat wooden bottom of the box? Â Maese: I think its tiny. Lol. I dont have anything to compare it too.
November 7, 200816 yr Does you concave section lift out....like is it a seperate piece of wood ? If so you can turn it around.
November 7, 200816 yr Congratulations on your first of many eggs. Edited November 7, 200816 yr by pearce
November 7, 200816 yr Author Ummm i have no idea! Is it to late to change it now? How do I move it with the egg there?
November 7, 200816 yr If you wash your hands thouroughly you can move the egg into a container but it is best to not move them. If you have shavings in your nest box the concave is not needed.
November 7, 200816 yr Author She has moved some of the shavings out, but where she layed she has moved all the shavings away and down to the other side of the box.
November 7, 200816 yr :happy-dancing: WOOHOO!! So happy for you. Looking forward to the photo's when they arrive! Keep us posted Please!
November 7, 200816 yr Author Of course I will keep you all posted. I dont think anyone else would understand my excitement except you guys :happy-dancing: Â ALSO Â had a quick look at the nest box. The concave built in. What sort of idiots make the concave under the entry!? Edited November 7, 200816 yr by jwancia
November 7, 200816 yr oh how exciting im sure you are thrilled to bits at the moment . i cant wait to see how your little budgies go . i will be watching this thread with much anticipation . congratulations on your first egg and may there be many more to come :happy-dancing:
November 7, 200816 yr That's not good news having the concave under the entry. I would swap the box over or you'll have broken eggs and squashed chicks
November 7, 200816 yr Author she hasnt laid in the concave. She has laid away from the concave on the flat bare floor of the box. she has pushed the shavings onto the concave. Â Â Maybe I should put a bit of ply over the whole bottom of the box and cut a hole in the other end. Gives it some sort of place for the eggs to sit in... saves taking the box off (ps. I tryed to do that a while back, and i couldnt get it off. I dont want to break it..)???
November 7, 200816 yr The reason a concave is used is because you don't want the eggs to have to fall back in if she manages to push them out. Maybe PM member Splat and see if you could get a false bottom made with a concave to put over the top :happy-dancing:
November 7, 200816 yr Author Do you mean they would role back instead of falling back? Â When i said use the ply before thats what i ment. Like a fake bottom, but i was taking about ply that is only like 1/2cm thick, cutting a hole in it and then sanding the sides to a slope..?
