Hi, I own a female budgie she would be about 1 year of age right now, she is the only budgie I have ever had. And I am extremly confussed. She has recently started to get in her food dish and kick all the food out, and just sit there. It keeps making me think that she must be like preparing for laying eggs or something, but I have no male for her to be laying eggs with. Does anyone have any idea as to what my budgie might be doing?

She is seeing the food dish as a potential nest. The easiest way to fix this is to rearrange the cage and put her seed in a different dish

Also increase the amount of dark hours she receives by covering her cage earlier with a dark cloth - it will reduce her hormones.

Yep I also agree with these two very simple solutions, we are a very agreeable bunch here aren't we? The one thing I might add is, has she got some toys in her cage to distract her? Or if she does maybe some new ones? What do they say a change is as good as a holiday!
