November 3, 200816 yr I think it depends on the male. I have 2 males that like to sit in with the hen and I have not found any issues with it
November 3, 200816 yr I couple of my cocks will sit with the hen in the box, if he's not misbehaving in there I wouldn't worry
November 3, 200816 yr A lot of mine do..............they are in touch with their feminine side. You have little to worry about
November 3, 200816 yr Author okay thank you it was just new to me , cause none of my others have done that at all just to feed mum well ill just hope all is well and the babies all hatch out without any dramas thank you . John & Swanacilli Edited November 3, 200816 yr by Neat
November 3, 200816 yr None of mine have... but as the others have said, nothing to worry about... I guess mine are the 'guys' from yester-year... wam bam thank you mum, it's now the woman's job Edited November 3, 200816 yr by maesie typo's
November 3, 200816 yr LOL ...... mine either I think i have "Bad Boy" budgies and the thought of them sitting with a hen will wreck their image
November 3, 200816 yr Its actually a larger percentage of my cocks that stay in the nestbox with their hens or are the primary feeders from day one of hatchings. One of my Dads incubates alongside his hen as she lays large amounts of eggs......9 first round 12 second. I checked another nestbox today to find a new soon to be Dad also sitting and incubating eggs. Counted the eggs and there is 11 !! He is helping keep his share warm. I think its real cute and a sign of the times....budgies dads that are SNAGS ( sensitive new age guys )
November 4, 200816 yr Most of the male budgies I have incubate their eggs ocasionally and usually are always in the nest box with the female.
November 4, 200816 yr I have observed that all the best cock birds sit in with their hens. Sometimes they help incubate the eggs, always they are on hand to help feed the chicks. The best chicks seem to come out of these nests .... the said chicks don't always go on to develop into amazing birds (it depends on the gene pool) BUT these chicks have the best start in life!
