Weaning Chick From Hand Rearing Mix

Featured Replies

hi I've been hand rearing my only surviving chick for 10 days now . it is now 27 days old and doing well . what i would like to know is when do i start weaning from handrearing mix to seed :star: . i have added millet to the nest box and cage and sprinkled around some seed too . but the chick seems to be happy with an EASY feed from the syringe and not very interested in getting its own food at the moment . i did read the faqs about weaning but didn't really answer my questions . thanks in advance .

Normal fledging age for budgies is 4-6 weeks and then parents are still feeding them in the breeder cage or aviary for awhile so you have time yet. Perhaps start feeding off a bent spoon about now and start adding some budgie starter to the mix. ?
