Posted November 1, 200816 yr Roxy has starting to get cranky at me, she does not bite but gives me a cranky chirp when i put my hand in the cage. She still set ups but when i go to scratch her on the neck and top of the head which she normally loves she does a angry chirp. She is showing no signs of moulting but can they get hormonal before they start moulting? Or because she is feeding herself now and not relying on me at night to give her soft food could she be trying to break her bond with me, like young budgies leaving the nest? Roxy is normally a very placid budgie so i am confused at her sudden change in behaviour.
November 1, 200816 yr She's going through some big changes in her life Deb... I remember you saying some where too that you notice her feathers are looking different. My 'educated guess' would be she about to moult or it's her diet change. With the latter, she should now begin to receive different nutrients etc... I know when I go on a health kick (okay, okay... you can all stop laughing now!!!! ), your body goes through changes, same as when you eat unhealtherly... so maybe she has similar stuff going on? It's a big change... so maybe just give her time. I'd continue to spend the same amount of time with her and do all the stuff you used to do... and just see. I'm sure it will pass in time, and I don't think she is loosing her bond with you... you're her mummy
November 1, 200816 yr I agree with maisie, on the other hand you tell her Auntie Elly tells her to behave herself or she can't have those late night IM's with Merlin anymore
November 1, 200816 yr Author I agree with maisie, on the other hand you tell her Auntie Elly tells her to behave herself or she can't have those late night IM's with Merlin anymore   I will tell her that Auntie Elly said to behave herself, seeing she does not like the personal contact with other budgies Merlin is probaby just her type. It is so strange having a budgie that loved cuddling up to me and now she does not want me to touch her.
November 1, 200816 yr Deb, Any updated pics of Roxy so we can see the feather change? or is it in another thread?
November 1, 200816 yr Author Deb, Any updated pics of Roxy so we can see the feather change? or is it in another thread? What i have noticed that her feathers used to look scruffy and fluffed up but since she has gone on seed she has a smoother look to her but she still has alot of frayed feathers but i am hoping that will improve now her diet has. This is a picture from a couple of weeks ago. This is pics from this morning
November 1, 200816 yr During this time I would say to try and encourage her to come to you more rather than forcing yourself upon her, you don't want her to get into the habit of squarking at you and being nippy so I would avoid anything which causes this behaviour until she settle down a bit
November 1, 200816 yr Even between the 1st and 2nd/3rd pics, you can see that she has become smoother. The seed diet will suit her much better, so i am glad to see that she has taken to seed. I forgot all about her when i was up there (was that only last weekend - wow) otherwise I would have one the "picture with roxy" thing. I love how the 2nd and 3rd pics give the illusion that you are outside and this bird is sitting on your finger. Very cool
