hi everyone

sadly Yesterday night

(the night i was ment to take pics of jellybean)

you might be wondering why there is no pics

of jellybean, that's because he cut his foot on

his food dish and now blood is every where.

I don't know what to do, i can't even change his water/food dish any more!

i can't even go near him, no one can.!

what can i do? :bump:

If he is still bleeding you HAVE to catch him and put white pepper or corn flour on the wound to stop the bleeding. :bump:

but when i reach out to grab him he knocked over his food dish and water split everywhere

and he's wings are not clipped.

Also, bird owners should keep a small birdie first aid kit. In that you should keep stypic powder. Its blood clotting powder, and you should be able to get it from pharmacies. Its good to have on hand incase a blood feather breaks or you accidentaly clip a nail or feather too short.

But what Liv has said is good if you dont have some. If all else fails baby powder.

Let us know how it goes!

could i just leave him to rest, cause we don't have and powder?

If it is still bleeding you must catch him and treat it. He may fly around his cage and knock his water over but you will get him. Just be assertive and calm. Im sure you would have corn flower or baby powder in the house somewhere. If not ask a neighbour.

okay so i've got the powder now do i just put it on the cut and

leave him?

Budgies can bleed out quickly as they don't have a lot of blood in their tiny bodies.

Catching a flighty bird can be hard. sometimes its easier to take out the perches and try and catch them on the bottom of their cage with your hand. You have to move fast with your hand and try and corner them if you are not confident catching them.

Try using a cloth to catch him with.

Try taking his cage into a dim room and catch him in the dark.

if all comes to a fail, wet him with a spray bottle until he is so wet he cant fly.

Use plain flour to stop the bleeding if you don't have any of the previously mentioned remedies .

Put the powder on the cut (i dont know if baby powder is safe though) and aply pressure with a tissue for a few minutes until the bleeding stops

Stop saying BUT and act now. Budgies can bleed to death if the bleeding isnt stopped. Catch him and stop the bleeding...everyone has pepper in there cupboard dont they ? You need to check to see where the bleeding is exactly coming from and what the damage is

i did it i sprayed him with water,(he wasn't very happy )

and put flour on his wound. do i leave him to rest now or

do i have to do follow up treatment?

As liv said use a tissue too. Its okay to get powder everywhere, just not in his face and eyes. Once the bleeding stops make sure its not a massive cut and see what the exact damage is.

If you have stopped the bleeding and it looks okay then you can let him back in his cage. But first take out whatever has caused the cut and look for any more potential damage.

once you have stopped the bleeding see if you can work out how bad the cut is.

What did you use?? if you get some white pepper for in the future it is really the best coagulant out there and it helps stop the birds pecking at the wound site for a while :bump:

A bad cut on the foot would be toes cut off, cuts where it is very deep and tendon damage making walking difficult. Let us know. Vet of course if you are worried and for anitbiotics.

can you take photos of the wound??

I'll try to get him out again but it might be a blurry picture

cool :bump: try your best and use a macro setting to reduce the blur.

Was the wound still bleeding? If it happened last night it can't be bleeding that badly by now :bump:

If h sits on his perch can he wrap his feet around the perch? If he can and the wound is no longer bleeding then just keep an eye on it incase of infection or it starts bleeding again

out you. this is my number one budgie forum

Jellybean's happy now and chirping now but

taming seems to have decreased. He doesn't bleed any more :)

honey is also a wonderful natural way to heal wounds and put on the bird's foot.
