Posted October 29, 200816 yr Okay so I am trying to learn more about sexing bubs for when I get a real young one. I feel I am okay with it untill you talk about the nostrl size and the whole bolbus vs smooth thing? Can someome please explaine (or preferably show me a picture) of a bolbus cock cere and a non bolbus hen cere. Same with the nostril sizes. I just dont see any difference. THANKS CREW! October 29, 200816 yr Check out my topic on sexing baby budgies. I find that bulbous thing a load of rubbish to be honest and have no clue where that info came from. I find the hens to have a more bulbous cere mostly and the boys have smaller nostrils.....all reverse to what has been said by whoever brought it up before. Of course cere colour is paramount in determining budgie sexes too. This week I have also been closely checking my chicks from day one onwards...........I am now seeing the differences from around 3 days of age and I swear I can tell boy from girl at that age now too.
October 30, 200816 yr Actually Kaz it is in our FAQ Then it shouldnt be Elly as the information is not correct.

October 30, 200816 yr Below is a portion taken from FAQ Sexing Budgies Another indicator is the shape; males tend to have a more rounded bulbous cere compared to the females flatter shaped cere. Is this what all you guys are discussing about. Kaz, I was under impression that when the chicks get matured, the shape of the cere gets reversed....as stated above. From my observations and hundreds of chicks that information is incorrect.
November 15, 200816 yr not trying to be ...whatever you want to call it, but i too kaz can tell when chick is 3 to 5 days, after that they start to change. its easier at this young age i get confused when i have not studied chicks when cleaning box but do what you suggested somewhere once . Right my guess down then confirm if i was wright or wrong i started breeding at 15 years old but to this day sometimes dont call it how it is but am normally correct if i have made effort to check when few days old ,my easy way out is to stick to sex linked birds Edited November 15, 200816 yr by **Liv**
