Posted October 28, 200816 yr Here are some pictures of my clearwings. I was so in love with Harrison when I bought him about 6 months or so ago, and then I found his girlfriend Sparkles. I havent seen too many blue clearwings, mostly just greens, so you can imagine my surprise and delight when their oldest baby started to colour up to be blue Harrison Sparkles The babies - Three clearwings and a fostered blue baby from Dharma and Tibet PS I have resized my pictures but the preview is still showing the unedited large pics - I hope they post at the correct size
October 29, 200816 yr WOW! Congratulations Sunnie!! I looooove the blue one and i am closer to you than the others hehe Well done - surprises are the best!!
November 11, 200816 yr Author Well the clearwing family went out into the holding cage today. I thought I would update with some pictures. I think the dilute is actually a violet, it looks more purple than blue to me. Harrison, Sparkles and their baby lookalike (there were two green babies, but I only got pics of one cause the other was hiding) The first thing Sparkles did when she was put in the holding cage was jump in their water dish and have a splash. They were sitting so quietly preening each other and I had the cage door wide open for pics and all of a sudden they both took off round the breeding room! It didnt take much to catch them and I am sure they enjoyed their quick flight around the room lol Here is the violet dilute. Such a gorgeous pretty baby. Baby blue who was fostered from my blue pair is in the icecream tub, happily nibbling at the corner, while green baby 2 was hiding on the other side of the tub And a cute shot of baby blue who is quite the cheeky little thing.
November 11, 200816 yr Awwww, they are looking gorgeous and sound like a really cheeky family I love the last photo - so cute
November 11, 200816 yr Author Thanks Liv and Kaz. All the blue babies arent looking too bad at so far It would be nice to get a group shot of them, but getting them all together in one place, other than in a cage is quite a handful! lol
November 11, 200816 yr Thanks Liv and Kaz. All the blue babies arent looking too bad at so far  It would be nice to get a group shot of them, but getting them all together in one place, other than in a cage is quite a handful! lol Once they taste freedom a whole new world opens up for them and short of gripping them firmly or glueing them down you have to set your camera for action photos
November 11, 200816 yr Author LOL exactly......I need a new camera like Liv  I get way too many blurred shots lately, little wigglers!
November 11, 200816 yr LOL exactly......I need a new camera like Liv :doh:I get way too many blurred shots lately, little wigglers! Grip em tight....like this
November 11, 200816 yr Author Grip em tight....like this That made me laugh when I read it this morning :hap: I really love the dilute too Elly, I wish there was a place for showing her, but with clearwings, apparently the body colour needs to be strong and the wing colour as clear as possible. I will still keep her all the same
November 12, 200816 yr She is not a Clearwing she is a Dilute, Clearwing is dominant over dilute for genetic purposes so you know . Yes Clearwings have the bright body and the clearwings, Dilutes have an 80% dilutation. 2 Different genes.
November 12, 200816 yr Author So can you tell me please, what would I expect by putting a dilute hen to a clearwing cock?
November 12, 200816 yr Here is the write up I did on this when I did my research I have always thought they lay on the same allele but what I have learned today is very interesting. If anyone has any comments, additions or debates lets learn but I have learned that I have been giving wrong advice. This is what I found out... A Greywing can be split for dilute (this I never though was possible from what others have told me) A Clearwing can be split for dilute Greywing & Clearwing are co-dominant Greywing and Clearwing are dominant over dilute So example if you bred a Normal split to greywing and normal split to dilute budgie you would get 75% Normal 25% Greywing NO dilutes Normal can be split for dilute OR greywing OR clearwing A dilute can not be split at all because dilute is recessive to both of the genes above so a dilute budgie is dilute period no split. So for example: If you bred a Greywing split to Dilute x Clearwing split to Dilute this would be the offspring possible % 25% Full-body-color greywing (remember the greywing and the clearwing combined create this combination because greywing and clearwing are co-dominant which means they don't dominante each other) 25% Greywing 25% Clearwing 25% Dilute Pretty cool....
November 12, 200816 yr Author Wow, that's really interesting. Thank you so much for that. I have thought in my show breeding I would like to mostly focus on cleabodies (which I am having no luck with) and lacewings, which I have a start in. I really love the look of clearwings though but thought I dont want to diversify too much, but after reading that, I may persist with my clearwing line Thanks again for the info Elly, it was really worthwhile to me
November 12, 200816 yr Author Oh, just one more question please. I get that a full body greywing is a clearwing x greywing, would you get some clearwings from that if you put it to a clearwing again?
