Breeding Issues

Hi there

I have two pair of budgerigar's and I want to breed to them (not for a sale but for personal use)

My problem is cock does not provide attention to hens, they are happy with each other

So I separated those cocks and put them in different cage with hen on last Saturday

So now I have one Cock and one Hen in one cage and another cage I have one cock and one hen, my problem does not stop here, for couple of hours (first pair )cock was behaving nice with hen and can see some progress but then suddenly it stopped, now they sit so far from each other and just sit

**first pair has got breeding box

** I provide them healthy diet and veggies regularly

My question are:

1) is it fair enough to separate these two guys?

2) Both the pair are over one and half year of age So why they would not breed?

Please let me know if you need any more information

Regards

Cruze

What does your breeding set up look like? How big are the cages and breeding boxes?

Too soon to give up and seperate them. BUT we can help you better as Elly has asked for a picture of your breeding cage and nestbox setup.

If their breeding box is of good size and the pair are getting on together as long as they are not fighting just leave them, sometimes it takes time and they probably get along better than you think when you are not watching.

yes, you are right!

i need to give them time and privacy

thanks

please do not use shortcut language. It is against forum rules

The cage size is good. A few suggestions. I would move the perches so there are two going front to back, one down each end of the cage. This encourages them to fly back and forth as foreplay for their mating. I'd also have the nest box up high on the 'outside' of the cage. This will give them more room too. Do you have a door up high on one of the side where you could hang it?

i will move perches as you instructed,

do you have some photo how to setup box?

As Maesie says you need the box on the outside of the cage ..............wire it on, use cable ties, anything that works and keeps it stable.

Hey mate & Welcome ....

I agree with Maes But !!!! The Hen isn't in breeding condition yet ( you can tell my the color of the cere)

You will also find that if you move your water and food dishes from off the ground they will stay more clean

prevent bacteria and other nasties :sadsorry:

Also i would remove the pipe cleaners as they tiny fluffy bits will get eaten

Good luck with your breeding
