Just Bought An Air Con-

We live in a rental with REALLY poor insulation so it's always only one or two degrees cooler than outside, which means on a 35 degree day its about 34 degrees in the house, etc. We struggled with an evaporator unit last year but it really just didn't help much. After keeping a solid eye on eBay looking for a bargain portable refrigerated air con I was about to give up as about the cheapest second hand is at least $300, well I was quick off the mark tonight and bought not one but two for $100. They apparently still work well and I figure for that price even if they only last this summer that's a-okay. Yipppeeeee, no more hot days :D

If it was just me I would cope Kaz but it's the kids that go mental in the hot weather and the last thing I need when I'm hot and bothered is small children in bad moods

We have a pool so that keeps my kids from going mental but not the husband :fear

congrats on the air :D

Congratulations on the air con, my kids really appreciate mine.

I couldn't live without air-con anymore, we got our unit about 6-7 years ago and it gets a good workout every year.

Hey MB, thought it didn't get hot in Melbourne? :D

Yeah right!!!! I distinctly remember hosing down my aviary on the 40+ days last summer and I fully expect to be doing the same this year.

Yeah I remember, you guys got all the stinking hot weather Queensland normally gets over summer. Thanks By The Way, it was nice not have a melt everyday before lunch!

Can't you get the Landlord to insulate or put in an air con for you?

We live in a rental also and the first year I asked for an air con and offered to pay part of it .... then last year I asked for roof insulation and he bought the insulation bats and we laid it.

The air con cost under $1500 with installation and I think we paid $300, we got it through the Good Guys. The insulation bats were $500 from Bunnings.

We are in defence force housing and it is not a requirement for an air con to be installed in Melbourne, by living in this house rather than a private rental we recognise that we won't have an air con BUT in return we get really cheap rent B)
