Posted October 27, 200816 yr Hi guys. I am wanting to get another companion budgie. But I have my breeding pair outside within earshot. Will the birds being able to talk to each other effect the bonding between me and the companion bird? I found that my first bird was my only bird and he was fantastic. My second bird could hear the breeders and was pretty terriable to tame. He wouldnt bond. Soooo I dont quite know how to get another companion bird if I still have my brooders.
October 27, 200816 yr I don't know (so didn't vote). It was hard engaging Cosmo at first because he would chirp at any passing by bird at all. My husband likes making videos and any time he was fiddling with a video and played back something, and Cosmo heard himself in the background he'd go nuts. He's not so bad now, but I imagine he would have been so crazy at first if he had budgies outside. But maybe it would've just taken longer or more effort to settle in and tame, not actually made it impossible. I'm a bit concerned about the same thing myself - we are going away for two weeks in December and giving Cosmo to my parents to look after. They have budgies in an aviary, and Cosmo will probably be able to hear them even though she won't be keeping him with them.
October 27, 200816 yr I don't think it matters, I have tamed plenty of baby budgies and they could always hear their parents and the outside budgies in the aviary. The main thing is that I wouldn't let it physically interact with the other budgies until it was very tame
October 27, 200816 yr If this has been the only budgie in the house and then all of a sudden they hear another one yes. It affects taming for the newcomer because he is distracted and looking for the other one and vs versa, being out of earshot is best. I know this from my own personal experience with Merlin and Pretty.
