Breeding Pairs

Hi,

I'm new to this please be patient. I have 2 breeding pairs in large aviary. So far they've each raised 9 chicks and now there's another 9 coming! One hen is getting very thin and I'd like to separate males from females but she's already laying the next clutch while feeding the current hatchlings. If I remove the nest box will she get eggbound? Will the female raise the chicks alone, therefore enabling me to remove the males? I dont want another clutch at the moment and the female needs to recuperate for a while I think.

Please help

Thanks,

Sunny

Hi :D

okay so you have 2 hens in a aviary? both on eggs?

i hen is looking pretty thin ( is this round 2 or 3 for the year)

So so i get a better understanding

I would personally remove the eggs either foster to other hen or toss them ...

How old are the babies in the nest box with her??? If they are about 2 weeks old I would remove the HEN .. and let the dad raise the babies .... keep her clam in a separate cage with plenty of good foods greens, seeded grasses vegies etc also added calcium ....

Move the hen into a cage with warm lamp and low perch. She may lay another egg or two from the perch before she stops. The warm lamp stops her getting stressed about where to lay the egg.
