Not Sure If She Is Going To Lay

Hi there, I hope you can help me out as Im new to breeding budgies. My wife and I have just come back from our honeymoon up in Queensland where we came home with 15 budgies.

The last to mature age birds we got where chasing each other around the cage at the pet shop, we loved the colours in them. But I have noticed her back has a hump and im not sure whether he has done his job on her while in the shop.

Id appreciate all the help. Thanks Geoff

Congratulations on your marriage :D

She has dropped wings which can be 3 things

1) poor posture

2) stress

3) a sign of illness.

It is not a sign of egg laying :D

Thanks for that, she looked fine when we bought her but we got them in Brisbane and the others we also bought come all the way from Bunderberg and they all seem to travel quiet well. Most of them spent 2 weeks in the cage where Danny and Sandy only spent 5hours travelling in the car.

HI ,& Congrats -

I agree with LIV and I will say it is from STRESS ....

Adding a nestbox - will increase this too

From their environment - to car / plane ( travel )

to your home - to new environment

then to breeding ....

I think ( only my opinion) you should remove the nest box and wait a little while till they have settled in

As stress can bring out the worse in a bird/s

They make a lovely pair

Good luck with your new additions

very cute pair. Goodluck hope it is just stress and not illness. Just a query... you said that you got them in brisbane and bundaburg, how did you get them down and in how many cages?

I agree with the advice given, it is really best to let new birds settle in for at least 30 days you can watch for illness and let them de-stress before they breed. Welcome.

We brought them home in 2 cages and had them sitting on the back seat and covered them over. Well Sandy seems to be moving around the cage with no problems and she is eating and drinking, The nest box has been removed from the cage so now its just time to see how she goes.
