Wing Flapping

hi peoples

Today when I was taming Jellybean

he flapped his wings with out flying.

Is he sick?

Is he hot?

Is he all right?

Is this normal?

Help?

Very normal for budgies that don't get out of their cages a lot or have a lot of flying space some just do it because either way. I found that when Pretty's wings were clipped he did it more often, Merlin doesn't do it at all. No worries there :D.

I agree with Elly,

Totally normal behavior - He is just exercising :D

thank you I thought he was sick :D

that is okay best to ask :D, no question is silly.

Ah is that why they do it. I always assumed our last budgie did it to clear out all the empty husks. At least that seemed to be the net result from him doing it...

 If only budgies were that clever :D

Agree Dave ..... I love watching the little babies do it and hear them flap away in the nest box is ;) funny as ....

Charley flaps his wings MADLY when its bedtime and I put the cover on. I think its his way of saying "NOOOOOOO!!!! not bedtime!!!! PLEASE!!!" Its rather funny as the cover is a lovely long flowing wrap around skirt, and when he flaps his wings it flies up everywhere and is hard to put over the cage. He knows this and enjoys making it as difficult as possible for me to "put him to bed". :D:D

My birds get a grip on the perch then lean forward and start flapping like mad, it must be how they excersise.

Yeah, my inside girls do it too. It freaks my family out when they are here :D . My aviary birds don't seem to do it... so I put it down to Gucci and Dolce having their wings clipped, not getting 24/7 exercise like the aviary birds, and not being able to actually fly.

Bossy does that too when we put him in his cage to go to bed and he also squawks when we try and put the cover on. It is definately his way of saying "I'M NOT TIRED!!!" :) "LET ME BACK OUT OF THE CAGE".

he also does it during the day for exercise, but without the racket and carry-on that we get when trying to put him to bed :)

Doesnt that just go to show us that they're just like little human people with a mind of their own! I love it when Charley does it, he's so cute and cheeky!! I pretend I'm annoyed and say "you're a bad boy!!" and then next day he sits there with his back to me, in his own little world saying "Charley's a bad bad bad boy!"... and I reckon he knows exactly what he's saying!! :)

I love it when my little babies do it in the cabinet together. They sit on opposite perches facing each other, then flap like mad at the same time. And then they like swap perches at the same time and do it again! Its so cute its like a little mirror image game! They even prune the same way at the same time. Naw! They are soooo precious!

Neat I love that too :P

Bailey sit on my finger and does it. He holds on and flaps his wings and I'm just sat there going AHhh what a nice breeze.
