Will Budgies Pick At Dead Mice?

I've recently become aware of a mouse problem in my breeding room since the weather warmed up. Regular traps aren't doing the job(haven't caught even one!) so I am now considering baiting. Due to the location of my garage(breeding room) I am pretty sure that any mice would actually be nesting within the room itself (there is stuff stored in one end) and not really travelling out of the room as they would have to cross a wide concrete area.

Before a small mouse problem becomes a plague I've decided to use Tomcat bait boxes to sort them out. I am going to close the room off from the dogs and cat so they are kept out and that way I should be able to find any dead rodents without having to worry about them too much but my main concern is the birds. What is the chances of one of the birds chewing on a dead mouse if one dies in there in the aviary and I don't spot it until a few hours later?

Not high but I wouldn't risk it. Budgies are very curious little birds. :D

I use Tomcat and poison in my breeding room BUT all my birds are in cabinets so the chances of them escaping and coming into contact are remote.

It wouldn't be placed in the areas where the budgies physically are but there is always the chance of a small one squeezing through the wire and ending up dead in the aviary. I don't know what else to do, they are just too cluey for the traps!! I have never seen any evidence of them in my main aviary, but I have in a smaller one which houses one of my galahs so maybe I'll take the galah out for the moment and put her elsewhere and take the chance.

okay, with those odds I'd go ahead and bait.

Good Luck! :D

I've decided I'm going to take a two pronged approach. As well as baiting I'm going to put one of those multi catch metal traps (the non-kill ones). With any luck some of them may end up in there after they've eaten the bait and not be exposed to my pets that way.

Good luck on getting rid mice. As for your question, I would say yes not to eat it but to investigate it as Renee said.
