Posted October 25, 200816 yr Simple. How many hours of sleep do breeding budgies need a night? And do they need silence to sleep?
October 25, 200816 yr I like to keep their day at about 14 hours long during breeding so 8 hours sleep Are you still having trouble getting them to breed? They're bushies aren't they? I only ask because my bushies are the only ones that I can't get to breed either I am wondering if they need a larger breeding cage with more personal space to feel comfortable. Maybe something to do with being less domesticated than their pet and show type counterparts. I'm about to try so I'll let you know if I have any luck
October 25, 200816 yr Author Yes they still wont breed. She wasn't in an aviary or anything when she was breeding in store. They were in a pet store cabinet. Keeping in touch would be great! Edited October 26, 200816 yr by maesie Spelling and shortcuts
October 25, 200816 yr I let mine go naturally .... and if there are any near the back room the light gets switched off after 3 hours of sun set .... MB can you ask the breeder or AV to ask the breeder she got them from how he breeds them ?
October 25, 200816 yr See mine are in the house, in a main room. They dont go naturally Natural light or special bird lighting is one of those essential condition components. If you don't get that right you won't have too much success.
October 25, 200816 yr You can buy sun globes for birds from Arcadia lighting. They have ones which fit in a normal bayonet or screw lamp fitting so you could put one in your desk lamp and set a timer so it turns on and off at the right times
October 25, 200816 yr Author the room is lit by natural lighting. We only use lights at night. Does this make a difference?
October 25, 200816 yr the room is lit by natural lighting. We only use lights at night. Does this make a difference? Direct sunlight is what is required for Vitamin D. If the light is coming through a closed window I'm not sure it's sufficient.
October 25, 200816 yr Author thats why i used to put them outside on nice days, but ive been told not to move them around. I do give them a vit d supplement
October 25, 200816 yr How long were they at the shop for before they started breeding? I had to move my breeding cages recently and so it put them off again and I'm back to square one. it took the bushies nearly eight weeks to even go into the nest box though befre I moved them. They may just take a while to relax
October 25, 200816 yr Author we didnt have them in the store to long at all. Im just being patient, after reading another post (forgot who it was by) about how hers took a while, cross fingers mine are the same. I blocked the breeding box off for a few days but it hasnt changed anything. The female is still in there often and they are still bonded. Naw they are the cutest lovers, preening and feeding each other. The family just loves to watch them, But all i really want is just one clutch. Just to get one companion baby out of them.
