Trampolines...

Featured Replies

My sister is getting a trampoline for her kids for Christmas and checking out her options. I said I'd ask here too... She is getting one of the round ones with the safety nets. They had thought of the 'spring free' ones but for the size they want... it's over $1,000!!! The kids won't use it that much to make that sort of money worth while... So, my questions are... do you have one or know someone that does?, what brand is it?, where did you get it from?... and what are the pros and cons?

Any advice will be most welcome and I'll let her know your thoughts. Thanks all. maesie xo

Trampolines... oh my god. So much fun!

I know so many people with them that i haven't needed to buy one for my own kids

the round ones that are 10ft and over are the best. Most people i know get them from Target for around $300 - $400

the 8 feet ones are just that little bit small.

The springfee ones are VERY expensive, what size are they after? I know someone who has a large round one with springs and my two kids bounce on it with no worries as the spring matts are pretty good now. If you are getting a very big one the spring ones aren't such an issue as you have more space to stay away from th springs

By the way I have recently seen some great ones with safety nets and matts very cheap on ebay(new) up to 12ft. One of the wholesalers in Melbourne seemed to have a good deal on them. I also saw one of the sports stores had a good special at the moment too but not sure on size

They are thinking 12ft. I know there are ones at target and local sport shops quite good value. She has also seen them online and on ebay. I guess the main thing is she doesn't want to get a dodgie brand/type... but I guess they probably all have to comply to certain standards anyway.

The target ones have been tested by my kids and their friends - they are great and haven't seen any issues. the big W ones are not so good as they tend to weather fairly quickly.

They do have to comply to certain standards of safety, etc. I would just be looking for whether there is a warranty, etc provided. There is a trampoline supplier near me on Albert St, if I get a chance when I'm going past one day I'll check it out. I know they had spring free ones too.

$1,000 okay .... That is expensive ...

TOYS R US .... TARGET ....BIG W ..... KMART sell them for under $400

Tj & Dylan have the Medium size one ... It is awesome as I can fill it with the balls from the ball pit ...

They are so much safer then normal ones ... When dylan was crawling i used to put him in it while i hang the washing out :D .....

Pros ... The netting is also a sun shade

Has protective Matting so no springs are visable and not fingers or legs can get hurt

Zips Up ( well my one does) so no falling out when they are running wild on it

You can dig a hole in the ground and have the tramp in it ... ( uncle done this ... It is even better then being above ground :P )

I am sure that there are more I can't think of any ..

CONS: When it rains the matting stays wet for a few days so expect wet bums :)

You may need a ladder ( i use a milk crate cause I am a tight bum  )

After a few too many games of bull rush and bouncing off the netting some of the pole may bend

Large DOGS LIKE TO GET ON IT AND EAT THE MATTING OF IT :( Naughty Jake ......

We have a trampoline that we only paid 199.00 for why so expensive - we bought ours on a sale at Wal-Mart? We have a round one with the netting around it. My husband hates the trampline because we had a party and one 2 girls were on it and they bounced off each other and the one broke her finger. I like it because the kids love to jump on it. In the beginning it is novelity but now since we have had it for 4 years they don't jump on it but once a month maybe?

Our we have steps to get up on the trampoline and we have the kids always take off their shoes before they get on and the flooring is always dry within an hour after it rains. The only probably we have is leaves which we can push out with a broom and push through the netting and the floor.

The one thing make sure the kids DON'T hang on the netting like ours did it has broken some of the screws on the bottom that hold up the netting that goes around where the poles hold up the netting. Also have to make sure you don't have adventerous ones like I do that like to walk around the edge on the outside of the netting.

Key is supervision in the beginning for sure. My son is very crazy on it and he will do flips which I don't promote. He has friends that are not allowed on it and when they come over then noone goes on it.

There has to be rules.

The expensive ones Elly are the ones that don't have any springs, instead they have almost like a system of shock absorber underneath :D The brand is called springfree and they are quite expensive

Got it I am sure they are hear but never saw them, I assume they promote them to be safer but when you are jumping and flipping you can get hurt no matter what.

Thanks all. MB is right... the spring free ones are meant to be safer... but not $1,000 worth of safe lol. My sister will be getting a normal one with mats and a net... and there will be rules!!! :D Thanks again all. Cheers xo

Cons: Just make sure you only let one child in at a time. We spent last boxing day in hospital getting a cast on our 10yo son's arm coz our 7yo son landed on it.

It was a freak accident and they are great fun, but stand by your rules!!

Oh No ...... I will remember that for when Dylan is older ....

They kids love to count how many bum / knee sits they can do

Dylan my 2 year old can do 2  So funny to see
