My Budgie Dogs

In my newly forming budgie flock, i now have 1 budgie (paula) who got out of her cage, my then faithful 11y.0 ridgeback x went to grab her, told him no, as i headed to get net. Whilst i was doing this he apparently saw her fly in another direction and without me noticing went after her.

I was in shock, and did not hurry to get her from him, as i knew what to expect, (i thought). When i got to him and asked him to drop, he put her into my hand, and yes to my surprise she proceeded to bite me, and was and still is alive and well. She has her first baby after her second attempt of mating.

To end the story about her rescue by my o.j, he was only 2 weeks away from having to be put down, and would have been in a lot of discomfort, as unbeknown to me his 4th and last bout of cancer had established in his liver and spleen, he had survived 3 previous cancer operations.

My next story is to do with the designer dog being over interested in the silver quails who live in the bottom of one of our verandah aviaries. My husband was in the process of moving them to another aviary, when he lost his balance and the quail took off to end up in the mouth of designer dog. Well there was no doubt in our minds that this was a definite goner, but no to our amazement she only had it in her mouth to hold it down, so another bird gets to live another day.

Hello and welcome

It's great to have you here and you have some amazing stories of survival there too. B)

Well ..... Wow ....... What can I say ....

You have bird catchers LOL ...

Hello & Welcome .... Thank you for sharing your stories with us ....B)

It is amazing how gentle larger animals can be sometimes and your dogs sound lovely. When I was a kid we had our cat catch our budgie when it's cage got knocked over outside, she brought it in the house and put it down and he flew up onto the empty cage!!!

Great stories, thanks for sharing :D

Welcome to the forum

Good to see you pop up on our forum. You will remember me giving you the forum details when we met at SWBC last week and we had a chat. We look forward to seeing some pictures of your birds. I know you need some help working out what kinds you have, as we were talking about last week. We can help you work out your surprises in nests and how they all came about. If you need help working out how to post photos...there is a link in my signature.

Welcome.... :party0011:

Welcome, your birds were very lucky many dogs are not as soft mouthed, a learning experience too that budgies need to be keep safe in the presence of dogs. :party0011:

I had a similar thing where Sebby, my bossiest femle escaped in my double garage and went flying around. tess, my youngest Cairn Terrier caught her in her mouth and was running with her to the door to get outside to go and eat her - no doubt in my mind Tess would eat her, she was not taking her for a walk. I told Tess no, and tapped her on the head with the bird net (Tess was behind a 1 metre lattice work fence) and she dropped Sebby. Sebby hooped up, through the fence, flew about 1 metre, trying to hide amongst some stuff and I caught her by hand. Cheked her over, and returned her to her cage.

Tess would have eaten her, no doubt, i was lucky. I do not want to try that again.
