Posted October 25, 200816 yr I bought a new budgie, and I've had her for a few weeks now. She is quarantine at the moment, but she can hear the other birds..Where I bought her she was kept in a large aviary with many other budgies. For the entire time I've had her, she's been gnawing on the newspaper on the bottom of the cage, (so much so now she has made heaps of newspaper confetti..) and she has been climbing to a top corner of the cage, turning upside-down, and sort of burrowing down head first in the corner at the bottom of the cage, and then flies off and perches, and acts like normal..She does this half of the day, just tearing up the newspaper and burrowing in the corners, and then perches and eats etc like usual. Is this normal for a new bird? I would have thought she would have calmed down by now...could she be wanting to go to the other birds, considering she was kept in a massive aviary with a flock of budgies when I got her? October 25, 200816 yr This is normal for a bird taken from a large aviary and put in a small cage, she should settle Edited October 25, 200816 yr by Neat
October 25, 200816 yr Author Alright, good to know she's not completely insane How long do you think it'll take for her to settle down?
October 25, 200816 yr Some don't settle - normally it only takes a week or so tops, so your hen might be what i call "claustrophobic" and never like a small cage.
October 25, 200816 yr Author Okay. Doesn't really matter if she is, she'll be going in a small aviary soon anyway. I did think it was strange that she has been in that cage for a few weeks and still is acting this way.
