Posted October 25, 200816 yr We line Cosmo's cage with newspaper, which is fine because it's one of those cages that has a separate tray underneath that slides out and he can't access the newspaper. But we lined his playgym with it too, and his absolute favourite thing to do is demolish it! He constantly rips up the edges of the newspaper. I don't think he eats any of it, but I do worry about that. It doesn't seem good at all - but then again lots of people line cages with newspaper. So I just thought I'd ask how bad is it for them? I'm prepared to totally get rid of it if there's any danger.
October 25, 200816 yr The black and white pages of a news paper are fine its the ink in the coloured photos etc that could causes issues.
October 25, 200816 yr Author Oh how interesting - I would have thought black ink would be as bad as coloured ink. Thanks for the tip!
October 25, 200816 yr I don't believe there is a problem with the black ink... newspaper is used for many pets all the time as bedding and i haven't heard of any issues so far.
October 25, 200816 yr I use newspaper in all my breeding cages with no problems at all, half the breeders I know use it too.
October 26, 200816 yr I have newspaper under the grate of my cage, but when my chicks were young, it was on op of the grate. They ripped it to pieces. I have never had a problem with any of my birds eating it.
