Can brother and sister mate or will there babies be born deformed i know this happens with us but im not sure if its the same with bugies

Same with budgies - don't do it.

 

Especially as the pet budgie population is pretty inbred as it is. That is where all those color variants come from among other traits that are not found in the wild.

No animal should be inbred, including budgies.

Don't inbreed. The babies probably wont be as strong as normal babies. There is also a defect where you get "feather duster" babies. They have twice the number of feathers as a normal budgie and only live for a max. of 3 months.

All you?re doing is destroying the strain

You can do a method called line breeding but you must know what you?re about

Its best to join a breeding club and get some rings then you know where you are and what?s what

Without this method it?s easy to inbreed as you can forget which bird came from which

I have been trying to strengthen the violet colors in my birds to make it darker and more prevalent

I toyed with the idea of in breeding but after I saw the results just decided not to

So now with the violet I?m at a loss

Hopefully the dark green babies I have breed with a violet hen will pass on the gene

I may have to resort to capturing wild budgies so I can start from scratch the wild budgie is much fitter and the greens are more intense

I did read somewhere that a French guy did this back in the eighteen nineties

So maybe its time to turn back the clock and put some fresh blood back into the line

But in breeding NO don?t do it.

I should also add you must obtain a permit to catch any wild animals in Australia

I think the fine is $10,000.00 dollars don?t think the bank manager would be to imprested
