November 26, 200816 yr Author Good luck with your Barras - I think there have been too many disruptions this year with our aviaries to get babies, but the princess hen is still sitting on one egg, so fingers crossed for that one The Barrabands now have two chicks hatched. The mother to these last year attacked her babies as they hatched....she did not seem to recognise them as hers and as they hatched through the night last years she was surprised by them and attacked them. This time the first two hatched have full crops and are being very well cared for. It pays to persevere at times

November 26, 200816 yr Author wow you can really see the holes where their ears are , glad Ken is having success this year with his birds and everything is going well and healthy. It seems the success is due to the aviary dynamics having reached a happy point. The right types, the right conditions, the right numbers, the right food and health, and all becomes right with the world.

December 16, 200816 yr Aww look how he is grown!! You said he would be out by Wednesday! how right you were
December 16, 200816 yr Author Today the first blue princess baby hatched from round two from the mother that didnt care for her babies the last time...sibling to the fledged princess baby and two more eggs to go. Guess what ? She didnt feed this one either. I have worked out she tries but she doesnt know how to do crop milk and just fills their crops with air and no food. So the only solution for the newly hatched baby was to foster it with Smokey and his hen Precious who are sitting on a second clutch of eggs. I put the baby in with Precious watching me. She took it from me, fed it and pulled it under her with the eggs. She is a very good Mummy and she is one I hand raised as a baby.
