Posted October 1, 200816 yr There a lot of parrot bonking going on in Kens aviary. He has birds in nests and some starting out. I think there is 3 to 4 Princess Parrots on eggs.....some to the one cock bird. There is canaries on eggs, there is gouldians on eggs and there is four new gouldian babies. Things are so busy in there that Ken had to make some more nestboxes, as parrots he didnt think would breed right now have. Todays surprise was the hatching of two princess parrot babies with another four fertile eggs in that nestbox. More to come. Mum is a green hen and Dad is blue. Some of the Princess Parrots I hand raised are now parents themselves. Will try and get some photos over the next couple of days.

October 2, 200816 yr Author The princess babies are so cute!!! Our's are flirting, and the hen is begging her man to feed her, so fingers crossed we might have some luck this year too Sounds good...should be long then. Maybe another week and eggs for you too
October 3, 200816 yr Author Another princess baby in the same nest...makes four chicks. Two eggs to go. :happy-dancing:
October 3, 200816 yr Author We have a disabled Princess hen in the aviary. One of the ones I handraised. She had an accident in the aviary once and got caught up on something Ken shouldnt have left in there. As a result she lost most of her toes on one foot. So she also wants to have a family but is having issues using the normal nestboxes. She is another one of our blue princess boy, SMOKEY's harem of three hens. She tried to lay an egg on the ground, as she couldnt cope with normal nestboxes, so today with some scrap wood I made her her own palace. Here is TOE_CUTTERS palace..........( temporarily sitting waiting for my husband to help me hang it when he gets home. ) There is a platform instead of a perch for her to land on. She can just walk in and there she has a "lobby area" ....if she turns left she has a little step to hop over into the nesting area. The nesting area is accessible to us via a hinged hatch lid. I think it will work out...we just have to hope she likes it. Her beau SMOKEY has already checked it out. Edited October 3, 200816 yr by KAZ
October 3, 200816 yr It looks great. We did a similar thing for our Regent hen who has feet problems. We turned the box on it's side and put it on a ledge far enough back that she would be able to sit on the ledge in front of the box but it also still has the perch, so the cock likes to sit on that.
October 3, 200816 yr Author This one has a lobby area inside so the cock can go in while she's nesting but not be in the actual nesting area with her :happy-dancing: Edited October 3, 200816 yr by maesie Typo
October 3, 200816 yr Great job Kaz... why should she miss out!!! I hope she loves it... :happy-dancing:
October 3, 200816 yr What a great Idea . It Looks awesome. Lets hope that the others don't see it and want a Lobby of their own too ... You will have to make House Extensions on the other boxes ... :what:
