have finally hatched a baby. There has been some clear eggs, ( I believe Vinnie was the reason due to too many budgie shows...he has stopped showing now )

but upon checking today Big Vinnie was in the nestbox feeding a newly hatched chick

Congrats!! They are a stunning pair, I look forward to seeing their baby/ies

I didnt check their eggs. First round was all clear, So I didnt check the second round thinking the same thing due to Vinnie. I thought if I left the eggs in there I could use them as fosters for my 12 egg hen OMELETTE.

This chick was a surprise to me so I will candle the other eggs in there later.

 

****UPDATE***** six other eggs all clear. Looks like these two can still be foster parents to some of omelettes babies. I will start removing the clear eggs, I will replace into the nest the youngest chick and egg due to hatch belonging to OMELETTE....the 12 egg hen.

well at least the family name will continue on one isbetter than expected and with 12 eggs from omelette I'm sure you'll have your hands full... there is always a hive of activity going at your place KAZ. its great trying to keep up to date.

You bet he is :rofl: Merlin is Big Vinnie's internet brother.Today brings the hatching of OMELETTES sixth baby in the nest of Vinnie and Sootica. Vinnie is a hands on dad and makes sure he feeds them their first feed I noticed each time. Three chicks in there now. Theirs and two belonging to OMELETTE. Last night I put Omelelettes, youngest chick in there and her nearly ready to hatch sixth egg which hatched today. Omelette has four of her own chicks in her nest now and Vinnie and Sootica have two of Omelettes. Being as omelettes babies will be green series and Vinnies will be blue series, wont be too hard to work out who is who later on.

In the beginning, not much of a size difference. BUT in this case............OMELETTES babies in Vinnie and Sootica's nestbox is easy. Omelettes babies will only be green series babies and Vinnie and Sooticas will be blue series babies. All get legrings so, when they colour up...too easy. BUT also Eldest chick in Vinnies nest is Omelettes...only ones to work out are the two youngest ones once they colour up

and YES, its written on cards too.

hmmm okay... so where possible it would be good to foster out to a couple that arn't expecting similar colour babies? otherwise it might be difficult to tell which is which.. right?

I figured something out...

Eldest chick in this nest belongs to Omelette and Stud ....as does one of the others. One is Vinnies and Sootica's. We wait for feathers to tell which is which.

So cute that was what I was thinking too Liv, Kaz is making me more aware now

I have worked out which chick is Big Vinnie and Sooticas, now we have feathers happening in that nestbox. They also have some of Omelette's chicks in there and two other fosters.
