Baby Chick Not Being Fed!

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi I knew that something bad would happen :) I'm absolutely scared the oldest chick who is a week old has an empty crop. It looks like everytime George goes near the babies The Mum attacks him or squawks.

I Really don't have the guts to hand feed (cause i'm a wimp )but if it needs to be done let it be. I tried feeding it eggfood but it wouldnt take it. I've also grown very attached to it.

typo's

If you put the chick in an icecrean container in a little cage with the dad on his own will he feed it?

Otherwise just take the hen out of the cage for a few minutes until George feeds the baby and then pop her back, don't take her out for too long though

If I do the first one will Lumina be okay on her own with the chicks?

If the chick is only a week old then its the mum who is the main feeder at that age. What time of day did you check ? It may have been just before she was to feed the evening feed.

the dads the one who feeds them all the time....I think, but his/her crop is empty
when was the last time you saw the chick with something in its crop?
a couple of days ago, when it was full

Is the mum well ? Has she a pooey bottom ?

nope she's fine healthy

I'd definitely take Mum out for about an hour and then put her back in before night-time.

Good Luck!
