Posted March 22, 200520 yr I was at school today, and when I got home I found out Mum had been using insecticides in the bathroom! She said she closed the door, but I don't think that's good enough. I get worried about Snowy - my Mum doesn't give a toss about him. I've tried telling her that insecticides don't even work anymore as the cockroaches have grown resistant to them, mostly. Plus they pollute the atmosphere and everyone's lungs. So I now have to try and see if I can move Snowy to someone's house for the day (probably my Dad), but he'll get a little anxious in an unfamiliar environment, and I won't be there. Thankfully, Snowy seems totally fine. Ant.
March 22, 200520 yr How close to the bathroom is Snowy's cage??? If it's at the other end of the house then i don't think there should be much of a problem. If he's near the bathroom can you move him as far away from the bathroom as possible??? I doubt the stress caused from travelling and being in a new place would be any good for Snowy either.
March 23, 200520 yr Snowy's cage is next to the corridor that leads to the bathroom. Mum wants to spray the rest of the house too...that's the problem. But now I've convinced her to put if off till next week - I'm gonna try and find an alternate remedy for keeping away the creepy crawlies...actually does anyone have any ideas? (budgie-safe and environmentally-safe) Thanks EDIT: Here are some pest (mainly cockroaches) control methods I've found: - catnip (active ingredient: nepetalactone which is non-toxic to pets and humans) tested only on German cockroaches so far: I've no idea on what we see around here - stewed cucumber peel - bread soaked with beer - intoxicate htem, then kill them - bay leaves, garlic - eucalyptus oil, rosemary oil, garlic oil - has anyone got experience with these? they shouldn't be toxic to birds, should they? - bay leaves Anyone have any comments or more suggestions? http://www.unce.unr.edu/publications/SP00/SP0007.pdf http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/howtokeepcoc.html Edited March 25, 200520 yr by Antt
