Posted October 20, 200816 yr It is so hot/humid here today and my hen has not been sitting in the eggs. Will they still be okay since it is so warm or will they now not be viable. Everytime I go up to the cage she goes back inside but I can see she is very hot. Any suggestions
October 20, 200816 yr Need more information....... stage of incubation ? where is this nestbox...breeder cage or aviary ? Shade for aviary or breeder cage ? Has nestbox got any ventilation holes drilled in it ? Is there a bath the birds can get cool in ? What is your setup like and where is it located ?
October 20, 200816 yr Author they are in an avairy out the back against the fence(not colourbond). There is a tree offering some shade the nest boxes dont have ventilation holes, how do I go about this? The eggs are between 10 and 1 days old The birds are bathing themselves
October 20, 200816 yr Can you put some shade over the aviary ? Shadecloth, beach umbrella ? You can drill some 10mm holes in the sides of the nestbox up high to ventilate. The cooler you can make your actual aviary the better. Even if you have to hose down the roof.
October 20, 200816 yr I get a water spray bottle and lightly mist the birds down this cools the off a little .. If worse comes to worse and it is time for desperate measures - Get a wet towel and put it on a fan and let the fan blow into them .... I don't know how hot it is where you are though so this may not work ?
October 20, 200816 yr My birds get a mist from the hose (making sure I run the hot water out of it first if it's been in the sun) a couple of times a day in summer.
