Breeding Update!

Here Neat, as requested!! Don't worry, it was LONG overdue!! :P

I have 4 pairs.

1st pair!!

Pixie and Asterix are awesome parents. Baby #1 from them has its eyes open, its pin feathers are starting to colour up and its getting fluffy! So so cute! Baby #2 from them also has a bit of fluff, no colour on pin feathers yet, but certainly growing fast!! Baby #3 from them is tiny, but still getting fed well. She had 7 eggs, 1 chick hatched and died the next day :ohmygod: :rip: 3 hatched and are still alive and well, and the other 3 eggs were infertile. Also, the parents, and the babies are very calm when I look at the babies, or hold them and check they are okay. Amazingly calm for first time parents, they never freak out, if I open the box and the parents are in there, they calmly hop out and Pixie gets a feed from Asterix. Pixie(hen) is a sky blue recessive pied greywing, and Asterix(cock) is a olive recessive pied. I think thats right. What should the outcomes be?

2nd pair!!

Aria and Galbatorix are also very good parents. They currently have 10 eggs! She is doing a very good job of sitting on them all. 6 of the eggs are hers, and 4 have been fostered to her! She is a really good mum. Aria(hen) is a light green recessive pied i'm not sure what Galbatorix(cock) is. He has a golden face, then his body is mottled green and blue. Any suggestions? Also the outcomes of the chicks?

3rd pair!!

Yoda and Batman! They only laid 2 eggs, but Batman never comes out of the box, even when I check the eggs! Both eggs are hers. Batman is the hen, named because when she was in the quarantine cage, she hung off the roof of it by 1 foot! She also did this when introduced into the aviary-note, they are now in a different aviary with no mesh roof, dont worry! Batman(hen) is a normal grey, and Yoda(cock) is a slate/mauve opaline. What should the outcomes be?

4th pair!!

Bones and Ghost! These little beauties are my 1 and only show pair. They are both Grey Dominant pieds. Bones, male has a really awesome boofy head! Could I show him even though he doesnt have a ring? Ghost does though. They are not on any eggs yet, but showing great interest in the boxes which I am very happy about!! The outcomes of these guys would be what?

Thanks heaps everyone.

Sam

look forward to seeing the outcomes in picture form :ohmygod: I have no idea what you should be expecting but I am sure that they will turn out gorgeous. Good luck!

Pixie(hen) is a sky blue recessive pied greywing, and Asterix(cock) is a olive recessive pied

100% recessive pieds

100% greens unless Astreix is split to blue and then you will have 50% blues & 50% greens

what type of blues or greens will depend on how many dark factors you will probably have cobalts & dark greens

If Astreix is split for greywing you have a 50% change of greywing 50% no greywing BUT if he is not split then you will have NO greywings from this pair.

Aria(hen) is a light green recessive pied i'm not sure what Galbatorix(cock) is. He has a golden face, then his body is mottled green and blue.

100% Greens unless Aria is split for blue then you will have 50% chance blues & 50% greens

If you have blues they should all have Yellowface Type 2 or GoldenFace Type 2 gene like their dad that is what he is, he is a blue series bird with a YF2 or GF2 gene spreading through the blue making him look mottled.

Batman(hen) is a normal grey, and Yoda(cock) is a slate/mauve opaline.

If Batman is a double factor Grey you will have all Grey chicks if Batman is a Single Factor Grey you will have 50% Greys and 50% Blues. Your bird is a mauve most likely not slate which is a different gene completely, mauve is when a blue series bird carries 2 dark factors. A females will be opalines from the dad and males will be normals split to opaline.

Bones and Ghost Domanant Grey Pieds

100% Dominant Pieds

I think you will have 50% blue and 50% grey if they are both single factor greys if double factor greys both parents the offspring is 100% greys and if one is a SF and one is a DF you have 25% blue and 75% Greys (someone will correct me if I am wrong).

In every nest there are hidden genes that may come out that are sex-linked by the cock or recessive traits that both parents carry but don't express so so for some surprises those are fun.

Good luck.

Wow Elly! Thanks very much! I am TOTALLY confused now!!

So with Pixie and Asterix's clutch, I should get green rec pieds yea? Unless Asterix is split for blue. How can I tell?

With Aria and Galbatorix, I should get normal greens?

With Yoda and Batman, I should get greys or greys and blues if shes a DF? How do I tell if shes a DF or an SF? and the female chicks will be opaline and the male chicks will be normal split to opaline?

With Bones and Ghost, I could get greys, or greys and blues?

Please correct me if Im wrong!!

Thanks heaps again Elly!

Wow Elly! Thanks very much! I am TOTALLY confused now!!

So with Pixie and Asterix's clutch, I should get green rec pieds yea? Unless Asterix is split for blue. How can I tell? You can't tell LOL you can only tell through breeding Astreix with blue to see if you get any blue chicks.

With Aria and Galbatorix, I should get normal greens? They will be normals unless G. is carrying the recessive pied gene too then you could get some recessive pieds, you could get blues too if Aria is carrying the blue gene. But just because you don't get greens doesn't mean your green bird is NOT split sometimes it take a couple times to breed out the recessive pied gene...(just a note)

With Yoda and Batman, I should get greys or greys and blues if shes a DF? How do I tell if shes a DF or an SF? and the female chicks will be opaline and the male chicks will be normal split to opaline? They say sometimes by the intesity of the grey but that again is sometimes something you have to breed out of them to see, yes for the opaline.

With Bones and Ghost, I could get greys, or greys and blues? Yes, as long as they are both or 1 is a single factor grey. Grey is a blue series bird.

Please correct me if Im wrong!!

Thanks heaps again Elly!

If Elly knows anything it is genetics... I understand why you are confused bird_paradise, benetics is a killer. But I guess thats the great thing about breeding, you never know whats in them 100% until you've bred with them a few times. gotta love suprises!

Yes, she certainly does know her genetics JB! I understand a bit better now though!

Oh yea, and what exactly are benetics?? :D

I never proof read thats why I'm always going back and editing... but alas I didn't see that :D just checking that everyone was on their toes...
