Posted October 18, 200816 yr Don't ya hate it. Especially when they are birds that you like!! When they are birds that dont mean alot to me (as harsh as that sounds) I dont mind, they get sold and thats it. But I thought about making room in the aviary the other day and put a sign up at the local shop now I didnt really have in mind any particular birds so when I got a call today I had to rush out and decide which ones I could bear to part with- okay so I picked a few and the people turn up and want 10!! Well there is no real reason I cant sell 10 as I have quite a few birds I wont be using and they are quite young so they are able to give the new owners many years hopefully. I do have a few favourites just leave and feel guilty as *** but thats life hey? And you start to think well I did have room I could have kept that one...and that one... and that one.... you know how it goes. Its definately hard putting them in that cage to leave though Anyways I hope they will be happy in their new house and I must learn to toughen up. :hap:
October 18, 200816 yr "No you don't need to toughen up", it's because you care and love your birds the way you do, that you feel this way, and thats a credit to you. Yes occasionally we have to do a cull of sorts, but don't ever change the way you feel about it, it makes you a real person who does care! Hugs coming your way :hap: . Edited October 19, 200816 yr by Neat Changed occassionally to occasionally
October 18, 200816 yr I think that is why I could never get myself into a breeding situation with any type of pet (that is one reason) I can't stand to part with them. You can always be strong and let go to the right person that always make you feel better but never stop caring which I can't imagine you would ever do pie .
October 18, 200816 yr I imagine what I'll be like when I finally start breeding. There will always be a reason to not let them go. But hey, I can't build an aviary big enough and my wife won't let me knock down the house and buy a tent to put up inside the massive aviary so i think culling would be the only option Edited October 19, 200816 yr by Neat Changed avairy to aviary
October 19, 200816 yr Oh Mate ... It is kinda heart breaking isn't it .... My first 3 that a sold I cried over for 2 days regretting the sale ..... But - It does get a little better ... I agree totally it is because we love and care for each and every one of them - That makes and forms a bond as we seen then as an egg grow into gorgeous birds .... That i think is what passion of the hobby is ... Loving and caring.. (((Big hugs mate ))))
October 19, 200816 yr it makes perfect sense what you are saying. Deb and I are swapping some birds, and I am giving her 6. It was tough to decide as some have their own little stories and personalities. Lucky Deb only has quarantine space for 6, or it could have turned really nasty - LOL
