I am moving in a few weeks and i want to avoid my birds having any eggs between now and then so i was thinking about putting them in sections boys in one cage girls in another is it a good idea to do that or is it better to keep my pairs together?(without boxes) Its just that most of my pairs are well and trully bonded and i dont want them to fret for there partners. And i dont want them to lose their bonding either so if i did that when i put them back would they be more likely to breed?

I would just keep them together and just remove the nest boxes. If their is nowhere to nest in the cage they shouldnt lay eggs.

Good luck

and if they lay eggs you can addle them and discard them if you find a couple. Good luck on your move.

I agree keep them together but cover up the nest box's... Good luck with the move, hope all goes well.

Thanks guys. Its hard because with the style of cabinets and boxes we have we cut a hole in the cabinet to fit the box on the side so i cant remove the box. I will just have to buy some wood or something and cover the hole or something. What do you do with your birds when they are done breeding for the year? Do you just let them fly around free in the open aviary? Do they still keep paired to the same partner?

once they have raised a clutch and the chicks have fully fledged its fine to put them all back in the main avairy... Some people have a juvanile avairy but not everyone can have that space. As for whether the hen and cock stay partnered in there, thats up to them :ohmygod:

I agree with the others... and good luck with your move. Once my pairs have breed, they usually get a rest away from the aviary, and then go back with their friends. In my experience, I have found that the strongly paired couple stay together. Good luck :D
