The sperm from the male budgie fertilises the female budgie and she produces and lays fertile eggs (not all will be fertile)... she then sits on them and after 18 days (give or take) they begin to hatch. She usually lays one every second day and they therefor hatch every second day. It is best to keep the male and female budgie together. The female budgie will spend most of her time in the nest box with the eggs and chicks. It is the males job to feed her, and once the chick arrive, feed her AND help her feed the chicks too. October 16, 200816 yr Maes, you should teach sex ed ...... I am glad that you got to answer this one first I would have started well when a mummy budgies and a daddy budgies LOL :lol2: But Elise, Maes, is right you need to keep them together ... Also ... Just because she lays eggs doesn't mean that they will hatch .... Another thing to read up on .... I am glad that you are asking alot of questions. It will make you a great breeder one day
October 16, 200816 yr good to see we didn't scare you of with all our answers on the other thread... I think maesie answered... but if not let us know...
October 16, 200816 yr I tried to keep it as simple as possible... there is a lot more to learn about the eggs, what to do and NOT to do etc... but my answer was how eggs are made Neat... me a sex ed teacher :lol2: That's just wrong in so many ways!! lol
October 16, 200816 yr Elise, it seems to me that you are thinking of just borrowing the male to "make the female pregnant" ( other members please excuse the terminology here ) and then he goes home again. If you go back to your other topic where you asked all those questions, it has been answered and there are some good explanations as to why its best and has to be that the male stays with the female for the raising of the babies. If your friend doesnt want their male budgie with you for 1 month quarantine 2 weeks to lay an egg a further 1 to 1 and ahalf weeks for all eggs to be laid 3 weeks for incubating the eggs and 6-8 weeks for hatching, feeding and raising the babies.... Totaling around 4-5 months at your home Then the only answer is that you must buy an appropriate aged budgie ( 1 yr or older ) and qurantine it for 30 days before using it to breed with your female. (if you havnt read my other thread ill let you know here i might be getting a boy for my birthday next month!) where would be the best place to buy a boy ? thanks xxElisexx If you do not have clean hands yes .... As the shell of an egg is very porous it can soak in all bad stuff especially strep & salmonella ... Always either use disposable gloves or disinfect hands in between touching other eggs .... If you are getting a new male for your B'day ... Please ask that he comes in a cage if you do not have anywhere for him to be .... Best Place is from a Breeder!!!! One that has CLEAN AVIARIES / CAGES Birds are happy and percky - and one that will refund or replace if your new one dies suddenly ( usually given a 3 - 4 day period on that one ) .... Good Luck ..... Keep reading

October 26, 200816 yr what age is it safe to touch the chicks. what age can you tell the gender? Please read this article ................Care of Baby Budgies in the Nest Sexing a baby budgie I can do at 7 days old. Most people who arent familiar with how to tell wait till colour comes on the cere at quite a few months older. A lot of people on here will be able to tell you the baby budgies sex at the age they fledge or leave the nest fully feathered. Edited October 26, 200816 yr by Neat
