Posted October 15, 200816 yr I've come to the decision of not training Skye and getting her a friend. I don't have time. Working and studying, I just really don't have time to spend with her and because of the animals I can't put her in a busy place, I think she is getting lonely. But I want to also keep breeding in mind, so I want a friend for her that I would highly consider breeding her with. I had a thought this morning. Can you get a skyblue dilute yf1 ? I don't know much about genetics, and can't figure it out. I know very little about the mutations etc, but i'm learning (slowly). Does anyone know if thats possible? And as there are sex-specific genes, can you get a MALE skyblue dilute yf1? PS: Sorry if i sound stupid but i'm really new at this. Edited October 16, 200816 yr by Neat
October 15, 200816 yr Yes you can sky blue dilute are both recessive genes and yellow face is a dominant gene. I would take the time before jumping into breeding because if you don't have time to tame your budgie breeding will take just as much time if not more especially if one of the chicks needs to be fed by you if the parents don't feed it. .
October 15, 200816 yr It is certainly possible, although I've never actually seen one, gosh it would be pretty though! *Makes note for future breeding * Here's the challenge, you would need to breed a dilute to a YF dilute or a YF split for dilute. So basically if you don't already have a YF split for dilute it's two generations of breeding to get there. I have a dilute hen and a YF cock and I think your idea would be gorgeous so I might put them together this year and then next year pair one of the YF babies(which will look normal but be split dilute) to a dilute mate, thereby hopefully getting YF dilute babies.
October 16, 200816 yr Yeah i'm not going to jump into it. I've got to wait at least a year until they will be old enough to breed etc. I'm just keeping it in mind for when I get her a friend so. Because she needs company. Between all the animals we have and everything going on in my life i don't have THAT much time for her and she can't be put in a busy area. I think yf skyblue dilute would be beautiful as well!!!! I wasn't even sure if it was possible, now i know it is, its making me excited!!!! melbournebudgies, if you end up breeding some of these you HAVE to let me know!!!! I would love one!!!! We have a lady here in hoppers crossing that breeds budgies, i'm going to find Skye a friend hopefully this weekend from her. I'll see what I can come across A blue pied would be nice too. They look very pretty. Edited October 16, 200816 yr by Neat
October 16, 200816 yr As I said it would be at least the end of next year if I did manage it but I'll be sure to post a picture Edited October 16, 200816 yr by Neat
October 16, 200816 yr Maybe there are more of them in NZ Neville? I've never seen one herePossibly there are more over here. I prefer strong colours so I've never bought dilutes but there alway seems to be plenty available with and without yellow faces
October 16, 200816 yr Hmm, maybe there are less here, I have only one dilute but don't see others all that often.
October 16, 200816 yr Interesting ... Margoo is a Sky blue Dilute Spangle - I have a YF - hen so next year I will see what happens
October 16, 200816 yr I had a whole nestful of YF dilutes once.....all five chicks. I will look for photos.
October 16, 200816 yr Pretty, all YF1? I would also be interested to see a YF2, it would be a lovely pastel seafoam

But I want to also keep breeding in mind, so I want a friend for her that I would highly consider breeding her with. I got sidetracked with the pictures of the YF dilutes and have just read back through what you said earlier. You seem to have little time for Skye, even for training or taming her. Under those circumstances getting her a friend might be a good idea ( after quarantine in a seperate cage at least 5 metres away for 30 days ) and if your cage is the right size for two. I would forget about breeding for now until you have either more time or more budgies. Breeding is frought with perils and to breed successfully you need at least 2-3 pairs or more to breed at the same time in case you need foster parents for egg or babies. While I understand this may be a future plan, one can get excited about the prospect and approach it too soon when time and other important issues arent in place.
October 16, 200816 yr Neat makes her own luck! I don't know where she finds all these birds but she manages to get one or to from here, another from over there... and before long she's got one of everything and then some split for this and that as well... Meanwhile I sit here with 2 budgies... woah is me... boo hooo!!! I never knew what a dilute was until now... I saw a bird in the pet shop just like those (maybe a couple of weeks older no more) when I first came to this forum... its what got me thinking it was time to live the dream... The dream of budgies... Edited October 16, 200816 yr by JimmyBanks
