Posted October 13, 200816 yr hi everyone I'm getting a budgie soon but my dad said that I can't touch it :hug: because I might catch bird flu In China lot's of birds use to have bird flu so they had to get rid of chicken and stuff for a while.Will I catch bird flu? please tell me because if you don't I won't be able to tame my budgie or handle it. HELP ME PLEASE chirps

October 13, 200816 yr Why is he letting you get a budgie if he is afraid of bird flu? Surely if it's contagious enough you'd get it anyway whether you handle it or not? There's no risk of getting bird flu from budgies in Australia. If there was, you can be sure that the sensationalist media would be all over it by now.
October 13, 200816 yr Bird Flu, NO but Here comes the cruncher Psittacosis or parrot fever. YES It is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia, this disease can be transmitted to people. But if you keep everything clean and look out for sign of it you will be sweet :rofl:
