rid of chicken and stuff for a while. Will I catch bird flu?

or handle it. HELP ME PLEASE ;)

Every member on here handles their birds and no one here has Bird Flu. (AND, if your bird had bird flu... you wouldn't need to touch it to get it. It's an air borne disease, meaning you breath it in)

Why is he letting you get a budgie if he is afraid of bird flu? Surely if it's contagious enough you'd get it anyway whether you handle it or not?

There's no risk of getting bird flu from budgies in Australia. If there was, you can be sure that the sensationalist media would be all over it by now.

Birdflu is not in Australia. If it was birds would be dying everywhere.

Bird Flu, NO but Here comes the cruncher

Psittacosis or parrot fever. YES

It is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia, this disease can be transmitted to people.

But if you keep everything clean and look out for sign of it you will be sweet
