Heavenly Pics

This is Heaven and Zeus. YF cobalt opalines. They were sold to me as badly marked clearwings, but I think it would be easier just to say they are greywings. They are such a pretty couple. They only had 2 babies and I havent fussed with them too much, just checking in on them. The last couple of days, I have started handling the babies more though, so they are used to me and I couldnt believe it when mum decided to jump back in the box while I was looking at her babies. She is sooooooo unbelievably calm! I can actually gently push her aside to get at the babies and she nibbles on my fingers and fusses over the babies. She is NOT hand tamed, she was sold to me by a breeder who doesnt handle her birds any more than most and she has been in my aviary for about 6 months. I can actually talk to her while messing with her babies and gently scratch her chin. So, I had to try and get a few pics of my lovely Heaven and her babies, unfortunately, they didnt come out the best. I also took a snap of Zeus so you could see who daddy is to :)

Can you tell that because of all the white fluff? I am kinda hoping both babies will be the same as mum and dad :)

Thanks guys :)

I thought the chickies were going to be the same colouring, but one has yellow tips on the wings and the other has greenish blue tips on the wings. It's hard to get pics of them, they won't sit still long enough! I will wait a couple more days for more colour and try again :D

The one without any yellow on the tips is probably a double factor yellow face ( looks white), keep it in mind if you keep that one for future breeding as it may pass YF on to it's chicks. Yes the white fluff signifies opaline

Unfortunately I had a loss with the babies here. I think I must have jinxed them going on about what a great first time mum she was

Anyway, last monday I found one of the babies dead in the nest. I picked up the other and realised it had nothing in its crop and I assume, for some reason, the parents just stopped feeding them :laughter:

I gave the other baby a small feed, via syringe and put it in the lacewing nest as their babies were about the same age. The parents there then had 6 babies to feed and I kept checking in to see that it hadnt gotten too weak and was missing out on its share. It is doing fine with the lacewings, as you know from my other post a couple of their babies are close to fledging, so there are less babies in the nest now. Anyway, I have taken this on board to be a little more vigilant. I do look in on my babies every day, but I assumed here, that being only two in the nest and them both seemingly healthy, I had nothing to worry about. If I had picked them up and checked their crops, maybe I would have realised and could still have both babies. Always lessons to be learned.

So I took a photo of the remaining baby as he is starting to feather up now. I would really like some opinions on what his colouring is.

Cheers guys :laughter:

sorry to hear about your other chick.

I have no idea about colour but it looks very cute.

The parents are full body greywings which means they are a greywing and clearwing combined together that is why the wings are grey and the body is a bright color. Because of this the offspring is a clearwing type 2 yellow face looks like violet, I would like to see the baby feathered up more or the chest color of the baby it see the strength of the coloring. They were not that off when they sold it to you as a clearwing they just didn't realize it was really a full body greying.

It is definitely a boy too, wish all boys ceres were that pink :laughter: I saw that the hen is an opaline but was the cock? If not then he is split to opaline, I can't tell if he is an opaline from the front he doesn't look it.

I will leave it a few more days and update pics.
