Posted October 8, 200816 yr Hey everyone, I've been breeding budgies for years and this is the first time i have ever seen it. after a few years break, i started to breed a pair of budgies i had bought, the male is a Dark Grey spangle and the hen is a skyblue opaline. over the last 18 months they have had 4 clutches ,always hatching and raising all eggs/babies perfectly which is usually 5 but this time they have 6. But something odd has been occurring with this nest, 2 out of the 6 babies where born with Albino eyes(and i do know the difference incase your wondering)but some of there skin colour has gone dark with there wings showing a light pin feather. Does anyone know why? the only idea i have is it could be a fallow, but the eye seems to have turned to more dark as it gets older. They normally produce normal greys and blues(different shades)(always males) Spangle blues and greys(both male and females) Pale blue Cinnamons(always female) I kept a Cinnamon baby from there first nest and would like to pair her up, What would be a great colour mutation to put with her? i was thinking a yellow faced bird(like the rainbows) or a pied bird to try and create cinnamon pieds. Hope you can help solve my mystery and help create an even better cinnamon bird. steve Edited October 8, 200816 yr by Neat
October 8, 200816 yr Fallows don't have eyes as pale as an albino so it is possible. I know your impatient but give it a few weeks and it will all become clear
October 8, 200816 yr Author Lol, i know I think i'm more excited, i have never bred or even seen the cinnamons for sale before, and now with the whole eye colour it's getting better.funny considering i was going to give them away and get a few other colours etc. Fallows don't have eyes as pale as an albino so it is possible. I know your impatient but give it a few weeks and it will all become clear
October 8, 200816 yr Author I will ad some pics tonight, but thanks so far i agree...need to see photos to help you
October 8, 200816 yr Cinnamons are born with red eyes and they darken as they grow. Or they could be fallows. I'd like to see a some pictures too
October 10, 200816 yr My thought was a cinnamons eyes too- and you already know they produce cinnamon. I have just had a chick hatch with red eyes- I had foster Ino eggs in that nest- (red not plum) and thought definately Ino but 2 days later they have darkened up a tad and looking more cinnamon colour and now I am racking my brain as I have no cinnamon bred birds down atm. The father of your birds is split cinnamon so all cinnamon chicks will be hens and your male babies will be split opaline (and some may carry the cinnamon gene now) One parent being dark grey and the other skyblue will give you a range of colours from the 2- both male and female chicks
October 11, 200816 yr Author Hey Everyone, Sorry i have not been on in a couple of days and i'm yet to add the pics for you to see. I am raising 5 baby ringnecks,so i have been very busy and tired, lol Anyways to update you all on the budgie babies,i now agree with those who have said they might be cinnamon.(i guess i just haven't noticed it before) so far the oldest baby who's pin wing feathers have just opened are brown(cinnamon) but for the first time the colour is a pale grey(yeah), as i have said before my cinnamons have always been light blue. so to get a grey this time is great.plus after all these years i have never seen one before. as soon as it it showing it's colour abit more i'll post the pics to show you all. Question???? Not knowing i have always sold them for $10ea(not HandRaised) ,should i be charging more for the cinnamons????????? Cheers Edited October 11, 200816 yr by birdluv chanegd H/R to HandRaised, please do not use shortcuts. only use approved shortcurts found in the Board Terms, Conditions and Rules.
October 11, 200816 yr Question???? Not knowing i have always sold them for $10ea(not HandRaised) ,should i be charging more for the cinnamons?????????It depends on the demand. Cinnamons a fairly common in my aviary
October 11, 200816 yr Personally I charge the same for all my colours, $20 for tame babies and $10 for aviary birds anything older than it's first moult (basically anything that could be classed as an adult) The only ones I charge more for are crested birds.
