Posted October 8, 200816 yr Just wondering what the right age is and how to ring budgie chicks? Thanks heaps, Sam
October 8, 200816 yr I am sure there was a topic on here. You could do a search. I was given an excellent little book the other day that walked you through the methods. If I ever get home again, I will scan it and post it on here, and we can pin it, if the topic does not already exist.
October 8, 200816 yr I ring mine between 7 and 12 days old, there feet need to be big enough so the ring doen't come off. I put 3 toes in then use the quill end of a feather to pull the third toe through which is the one that is short and wraps around the perch the thumb kind a one. I hope that makes sense. There should be some info here in the forum I will see if I can find a picture for you
October 8, 200816 yr Their is an article I got from this site that tells you how to ring a baby budgie. http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/prbsinc.../Band-chick.pdf

October 8, 200816 yr Since various kinds of budgies are differing sizes another way to work out when to legring them is this............. Find their littlest back toe, and hold it along the leg. If it reaches the joint in the leg the chick is ready to ring. If too short to reach, its not ready yet. Hope this helps
October 8, 200816 yr Time to do it varies- can stretch out to 2 weeks but one of my last ones was done at 4 days. Need to watch your chicks and assess the right time for your birds. If I had assumed it would be ready at 6-7 days it would have been to late Edited October 8, 200816 yr by the pie
