I got this new budgie and he/she has been pushing his head through the bars of its cage and geting stuck so I get him out of his cage and it will sit on my hand but as soon as it see's its cage it flys strat towards it. I know the cage is big enough but my friend says its because the bars are two wide so its more of a cockatiel cage. In a couple of days i'm going to the pet shop to see if they've got a better cage with better bars. got any ideas?

:D

If it's a cockatiel cage the bars are probably too wide. Did you just get him? Do you have other birds that this bird can see? I have a hen that did this same thing. She could see the other birds and was in a cage by herself and was trying despritely to get out. Even in a parakeet cage she was able to get her head out at the top corner were the corners rounded out. He may calm down a bit. Let us know how you make out.

What is the width of the bars?

1 1/2 - 2cm

that is way too big should only be 1/2, look in the post above, I posted a great article about correct cages :fly:.

Sounds like what everyone else has said you have the wrong cage for a budgie ... If you can put your finger through the bars Then the bar spacing is too big ;)

Elly means 1/2 inch ;)

As far as a budgie goes there is a big difference between 1 1/2cm and 2 cm so you really need to measur it properly with a decent ruler. A budgie cage should have spacing of around 1.2cm although a large budgie(show type) would be okay with 1.5cm

I agree with everyone lol

You should go look at cuddles and puddles and the pet barn, or maybe even the taradale one they might have a cage like our one there. The one you like lol,

;)
