Posted October 7, 200816 yr Got a male bird, about 2 years old. He has just started pecking around his neck area alot. This has just left mainly the white feathers (he's blue By The Way) in that area and when I look closer I can see the skin below and it looks a little raw. I've tried treatment for bugs and the likes, but does not seem to have made any difference. I've also noticed though not sure if it's related, but he cannot seem to fly for a long as normal, he flies a short way then just drops out of the air. Apart from that he's just his normal self, chirps, eats and generally makes a pest of himself. Any suggestions are welcome Thanks
October 7, 200816 yr That does sound concerning... could he be bored? Otherwise it is likely that there is something irritating him there that you don't know about. Sounds significant enough for a vet trip in my opinion.
October 7, 200816 yr Author Will get a picture added shortly hopefully. His tail and wings look fine to me. He's got plenty of toys and mirrors to play with and when I'm in, he spends most of his time sitting on either my shoulder or knee and talking or chirping
October 7, 200816 yr Hmmm. okay I will wait for the photo before I say what it might be .. But if you do have concerns you should always contact your nearest avian vet
October 7, 200816 yr Author If you think it could be bad, please just feel free to say so and I'll get him off to the vets. I will still post a picture though, hopefully tomorrow
October 7, 200816 yr I do think you should take in to your Avian Vet. Budgies plucking is not as commonly found as it is in the bigger birds. I wouldn't do anymore treatments for anything until the bird is throughly examined.
October 7, 200816 yr I'd be off to the vets also... good luck with him. Please keep us updated on him and his itch. I've noticed he is your only bird... and I'm assuming you have/or would like to have a strong bond with him. I'd personally remove the mirror. This will allow him to connect to you more then his 'friend in the mirror'
