You need to watch and se sure. BUT you can also put millet sprays in her nestbox.

Can be bought in boxes in the pet section of supermarkets and also at any petshop or bird supply store

i have heaps of that i always give them some i just had a dumb moment i didnt realise what it was called until i saw the photo so i can just put that in the nest box is that right

well, i put it in and she went nuts and so did he. She came out of the nest box and flew at me so when she went up on the perch. I put it in and left her alone to go back in i hope she does. thank you now i dont have to worry about her going hungry

The millet spray is great, I put one in my birds box as she has been in there for weeks and she loved it. So at least now I know she is getting enough

she keeps going to the box and chirpping really loud like to say get out she hasnt gone back in yet but im sure she will love it like yours

She will be okay, some hens are a bit funny at first. if she really dissaproves then take it out and pull the millet off the stick and put the seeds back in the box

i have pulled it out and done what you said already as she was going to the box and trying to pull it out her self getting very upset so i just did it i was just about to ask if this was okay but you had said to do it anyway ive never seen her like this before she is really funny today do you think it could be because of the egg she layed off the perch and cracked i took it out this morning but she didnt see me take it only him

thats what i have done and she has just gone back in her box so all is good she really wasnt going to go back in there with it in there

PLEASE HELP ME i just went to cover my birds like everynight and there is another egg in the same place as this morning i pick it up slowly and it to was cracked and stuck to the news paper it looks the same as this morning she has layed it from the perch is this were she will lay every egg now how come she was able to lay two in one day is there something wrong with her or can budgies do that

Check to see if something has been getting in her nestbox causing her not to use it. Sometimes cockroaches live under the nestboxes and go into them at night. If you have mice going into your aviary they will keep a hen out of her nestbox. Just some suggestions

Thankyou i will do that but as for mice i dont think because its a small aviary and i have it up on a table off the ground

 

but i still dont understand how she was able to lay two eggs in the one day sorry thankyou for all your help and ideas they have all been great

well i was outside doing washing and i saw my hen sitting up on the top perch and i saw an egg coming out she just wiggled her tail and the egg dropped to the ground and then she flew back into her nest .

 

so do you think she only want two eggs and no more because there is no other reason to why she keeps doing this she should have five eggs in her nest but she only has done two in there i was going to put it in her nest for her but it had a really big crack and the yolk was already coming out of the egg i just cant understand why she was fine for two and not the rest

Just like there are really smart people and really dumb ones....budgies are the same. Usually issues like you are experiencing are associated with young inexperienced hens. Yours isnt young but may be inexperienced. These are not good signs for a successful mother to future chicks. I would remove the nestbox myself, throw away the eggs and let her get over it. She may lay another off the perch or two but it will stop with the nestbox gone. Might be the best thing for now and try a few months later but not through the hot weather.

yes she is inexperienced hen this is her first time laying but she is very protective of the two eggs she is laying on

 

i guess i just do what you said but if i do wont she because stressed out when i take the two off her

You need to candle the eggs and see if they are fertile.

i would love to do that but i wasnt thinking they would breed since they never have before and the nest box is in the cage with the door to the back of the cage so im just looking through the hole at her so i cant get to the door unless i move the nest box
