Posted October 6, 200816 yr okay I am dumb when it comes to maths So i was wondering can any one can tell me how to work out cubic metres ? Also How thick a cement aviary floor should be
October 6, 200816 yr I cant help you with cubic metres....well maybe I could but my brain is fried this time of day But the slab should be 100 mm which is 4 inches deep.....and if supporting anything should be 150 mm on all the edges. Edited October 6, 200816 yr by KAZ
October 6, 200816 yr One cubic metre means 100cm by 100cm by 100cm(like a big box), don't get confused with 100cm^2 which is 10cm by 10cm Going on Kaz's 10cm rule for every ten square metres of floor (a 2x5metre aviary) you would need one CUBIC metre of cement Edited October 6, 200816 yr by melbournebudgies
October 6, 200816 yr From what I understand... cement is the powered bit... the fine dust type stuff IN concrete... Concrete is cement mixed in with all the other stuff... sand, stones etc... I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. When I did my aviary I used rapid set concrete. My aviary was already paved. I spread out the dry concrete on top of the pavers and then watered it down. Ignore me!
October 6, 200816 yr Not positive about it Maesie but my understanding is that concrete is made with a mix of cement and gravel whereas cement is a straight powder mix. If you poured it straight out of the bag without adding gravel you would have used rapid set cement. Concrete is a stronger mix used in building slabs for houses, etc whereas straight cement is generally used for things like posts on pergolas (I think )To give yourself a bit of leeway you would need about a quarter of a cubic metre of mixed cement (or concrete)

But in the bags I used they had gravel in them as well... that's why I said Concrete. I should have used Cement as it would have been a smoother finish... but you learn.
