Posted October 4, 200816 yr This is Lily and Jack. She is a badly marked lacewing (but a lacewing nonetheless) and he is lutino split lacewing. I have been trying to get some pics of them and their babies for a few days now, but they seem to keep coming out blurred and I havent been able to get any good shots of mum, so I posted a couple of old ones of her from when I first got her. They have 5 babies. 2 yellow, 2 white and a beanie just hatched 4 days ago. I nearly missed him when he was hatched! But mum and dad are looking after all babies wonderfully Lily in the aviary and the day I brought her home, still in her carry cage, I only included this so you could get an idea of what I meant by "badly marked" Jack, her doting partner The babies, unfortunately I had to use the flash to get it bright enough to take pics in the box and they look like they have red eyes from the flash but they all DO have red eyes lol Mum decided to get back in the box and was mobbed, you can barely see her at the back And then dad wanted to have a look and check out what was going on too! Oh you can also see him in the picture above checking one of the younger babies Hope you enjoy my little gems
October 4, 200816 yr AWWWW :happy-dancing: Congratulations!!! What an adorable family I cant wait to see them all feathered up
October 4, 200816 yr How cool is that photo their eyes all glow Congrats on the babies Sunnie - are you hoping for lacewings ? If so, hope you get a couple :D :D Edited October 4, 200816 yr by maesie Fixed emoticons
October 4, 200816 yr Sunnie, you should submit that baby photo for Budgie of the Month that is just so cute .. The parents and the babies are beautiful, keep this post updated I would love to see all the babies fully feathered
October 4, 200816 yr Author Thanks guys. Yes Neat, I am hoping for lacewings. I would like to focus mostly on lacewings and tcbs in my breeding. I have another pair of white lacewings down. Once again, they markings on this pair are not great either, but I know there have been genes in there that have thrown lovely birds, so hopefully with some breeding, time and patience, I will start to get well marked birds and build size
October 4, 200816 yr Author Yes, Im just hoping with all fingers and toes crossed that they feather up with cinnamon on their wings!!
October 15, 200816 yr Author Baby one and two should be fledging, so due to the nest box being fairly full and these two babies being fully feathered, I have taken them out and on Kaz's advice, made them a icecream container "nest" with seed and millet in it for them to pick at. They are already perching on the edge of the icecream container! I am cautiously excited that I think both these babies have cinnamon on their wings. Dad is being a little excitable, he is young and this is his first clutch and he is trying to work out why he has these other "people" in his cabinet I think. He hasnt been aggressive, but a little frustrated, so I am keeping a close eye on these guys too. One of my rainbow babies died, due to the parents just stopping feeding them, so I fed the other one then put it with this family, which is why their box is a bit full It is doing very well with its new family I am happy to say Baby One Baby Two The babies perching on their new "nest" (you can see the white baby climbing up in the back corner)
October 15, 200816 yr on the yellow one? yeah I thought I saw something there but didn't want to get Sunnies hopes up... incase it was just my eyesite... Edited October 15, 200816 yr by JimmyBanks
October 15, 200816 yr really??? I genuinely can't see it on the white one... I see some yellow on its face but isn't that food?? I have a genetics question in relation to this thread... Lacewing is sexlinked right? and so is Lutino right?? soo... does that mean that all the white ones will be cocks and all the yellows hens?? I know I'm asking what must seem like dumb questions tonight but I still don't have my head around genetics...
October 15, 200816 yr The Ino is the white version The Lutino gene is the yellow version Both these genes erase the blue from the bird leaving the base color of the bird white on a blue bird and yellow on a green bird. You can have a mixture of ino/lutinos as long as you have a blue gene in the breeding. The coloring is not sex-linked ONLY the ino or lutino gene itself. Make sense Jimmy Yes I see the marking lightly on the shoulders. Congrats Sunnie.
October 16, 200816 yr now I am confused... I see the markings on the yellow one, but can't see them on the white one... and then I look in my Budgerigars in colourbook and they show the Lacewings as having mauve cheek patches... I dunno.. I am confused... I see one thing and read another. I hope they are Lacewings though!!!
October 16, 200816 yr WOW! What a beautiful budgie family. I love looking at all baby budgie photos and find many of them especially nice, but this was the first time I felt very breathtaken by them. ... they are so beautiful!!! As you can see I have a huge soft spot for them and will be watching closely out of interest By The Way I had a white budgie called Lily once
October 16, 200816 yr Author Thank you I have to admit I am having problems getting pictures of them as they dont sit still for long enough! But I will continue to try and get pictures, and follow up with pictures after their first moult to hopefully show some lacewing markings
October 16, 200816 yr What adorable bubs It is so cool that you got both white and yellow together in the same clutch
October 17, 200816 yr With approval from sunnie - I have circled ( sorta looks like a circle :hap: ) where I can see the markings on the "White" Lace wing ....
October 28, 200816 yr Author These arent great pics - they would be much better without the bars, but I thought I would share anyway. Three babies on bucket - sitting on the edge of their inverted "hut". The little greyish coloured baby with the yellow face is the fostered baby from the rainbow pair. Veggie pigout In the holding cage now. Dad feeding the foster child while mum looks on. The cute picture I missed was just moments earlier, the baby was in the corner of the cage and mum was preening it and he was loving it. They seem to pay the only baby that isnt their own more attention, like they "know" it had a misfortune lol Edited October 28, 200816 yr by Neat
October 28, 200816 yr ... Did they turn out lace wings ... Or was i just seeing things :sadsorry: in the earlier photos?
October 28, 200816 yr Author ... Did they turn out lace wings ... Or was i just seeing things :sadsorry: in the earlier photos? No, they are definitely marked. It is hard to see in the pictures, they wont sit still on my finger any more for me to get close enough pictures, but I think all of them have cinnamon throat spots. I plan on doing more pictures after they moult to hopefully get clearer pics of their markings. The oldest baby is in the nursery aviary with the white baby, and you can definitely see the markings on them. So, you werent just seeing things!
