October 3, 200816 yr Absolutely - I hope that I am not putting the idea out there that the ACV will save a bird That isn't what I was trying to do ... I am not a vet and there could be many things that could make your bird sick .... The AVC will buy you some time ... It will Boost his immune system and will fight of most bacteria. As he has been vomiting and has runny poo it will help with the fluid loss by the electrolytes lost . Edited October 3, 200816 yr by Neat added more info
October 3, 200816 yr Author Will the mixture keep like can I put it into his water dish and leave it in there till the morning and then put some more in or is it a once of thing
October 3, 200816 yr Will the mixture keep like can I put it into his water dish and leave it in there till the morning and then put some more in or is it a once of thing As I said above Cara...the vinegar isnt a medicine to make him instantly better...it for upset tummies and not seriously ill birds.
October 3, 200816 yr Author He drank some of it so hopefully he will perk up a bit in the morning, I have moved his cage up into my room were it is quiet. He hasn't worked out that the white dish has the mixture in it and will only take water when I put the old dish from the big cage in so I think I will swap the water dishes around until Blue is feeling better. Hopefully that will help him  What does the mixture do anyway? Edited October 3, 200816 yr by Cara
October 3, 200816 yr Good luck with him - I am sending you and blue good thoughts and i hope he is brighter in the morning Let him rest knowing you have done all you can for now.
October 3, 200816 yr It will Boost his immune system and will fight of most bacteria. As he has been vomiting and has runny poo it will help with the fluid loss by the electrolytes lost .vinegar makes the digestive tract environment unpleasant for germs and fungus due to the acid that is in it
October 3, 200816 yr Author I wasn't trying to sound as if you guys had to save his life, I am just hoping that is whats wrong with his and it isn't too serious. Thats for all your help he is resting up now and I have given him the ACV in his favourite water dish and made sure I have a spare light bulb close at hand if it blows at some point. Thanks again for your help, I will keep you up dated no matter what happens.
October 3, 200816 yr I hope he pulls through, I would also find yourself an AVIAN vet to have your birds checked out once this ordeal is over. Â At the grandparents house did you notice if they used candles, air freshners, strong cleaners around his cage? This can irriate the lining and cause respiratory infection...I am not saying this is what happened but I would investigate grandma's house.
October 3, 200816 yr Oh mate... good luck. I hope he makes it through the night and you are able to get him to the avian vet. I'm sending you both good luck vibes xo
October 3, 200816 yr Author Well Blue made it through the night, I didn't get much sleep though and I am going to ring our vet this morning to see if there is anything they can do if it's not too late. He is looking a bit more alert this morning. His symptoms this morning are:* Sleeping (Can someone send me a photo of a sick budgie that has it's head tucked under its wing cause Blue hasn't exactly got his head under his wing)* He has a pooey bum ( Should I cut the lumps of or are there other methods I can use)* Fluffed up (Is this due to temerature and should I increase the watt as he has a 25 watt bulb at the moment)Apart from that hes eating heaps and his crop feels good and he hasn't lost any weight over night.Should I keep going with the ACV in his water? Is it a wise idea to continue offering Blue fruit and veg? Edited October 3, 200816 yr by Cara
October 3, 200816 yr I would leave the poopy bum until he feels better stressing him out like that or getting him wet will make him cold and sicker. Â Keep him warm constantly and him quiet and let him sleep. Â Find out what the temperature of the room is it should be 75F. Â What color are his poops just a quick indiction that if it is only white he isn't eating enough and only black he is not drinking. Â I would say continue to give him the ACV.

October 3, 200816 yr Morning Cara, So pleased he is still with us. He is not as bright sounding as i expected though. I would get onto your avian vet and get them to test for Megabateria, Canker and psittacocis. Normally often a blood test and a poop sample and a crop wash can tell the vet what is happening. Â Good luck  Â Can you post photos of him and his poop? Edited October 3, 200816 yr by **Liv**

Im going to ring the vet at 8:00 we though he was going to lose his battle just before, he was on the floor sleeping and I was stroking his head but then he saw the corn I had for him and he went for it as if he hadn't eaten in weeks. His poos have changed dramatically instead of normal colouration and lumpy they have turned more black in colour and there very moist there not runny just moist. Does the black colour mean hes not drinking enough water?I have had a closer look at the poo on the pirch and when the light shines on it it goes a dark forest green colour and it has whitish grey parts in the centre
October 3, 200816 yr black mean he is not drinking enough yes, I would encourge him to drink, Liv is right he needs to be seen by an Avian Vet but the tests I won't lie to you may be costly you are going to have to discuss this with the vet.

What is an average recovery success rate 50/50 lease.... more?
October 3, 200816 yr The stool sample is inexpensive and if you can find an avian vet asap they can do that for you, it will give you some answers especially if it is mega.
October 3, 200816 yr Recovery rate for an unknown disease/illness is as long as a piece of sting - there is no way of knowing. Get him to the vet today and find out what is wrong, then you can go from there. Edited October 3, 200816 yr by **Liv**
October 3, 200816 yr Author I have to ring a 9:00 my vet doesn't open till then and they close at 2 so I will try and get him in today. Â Also I am just about to clean Molly's cage, but Blue is in the cleaning/hospital cage. Can I put her into a shoe box while I clean the cage out Edited October 3, 200816 yr by Cara
October 3, 200816 yr Here is the poop site ---> HERE Â Keep molly seperate so a shoe box (with lots of holes) will be safer than putting her with blue. Â Use the ACV to clean every nuck and cranny of the cage too.
