I went away for 2 weeks and got home today and BLue is really fluffed up, a really dirty bum and a messy face he still chirping a bit but the vet said it was too late for him and won't do anything about it. I have made a hospital cage covered three sides and the roof, should I put a light on him or should he be fine please tell me things i can do to save him.

Was the vet an avian vet?

my grandparents looked after him and Molly and told me on the phone yesturday that he wasn't looking well so I told them how to make up a hospital cage with the small cage I had in the garage. Molly isn't sick she's fine but blue is very fluffed up hes chirping a little and eating heaps and Im offering him lots of veges and water will organise a light for him. The vet was avain vet but they told me grandma that when a bird shows signs of sickness it's too late.

Does he need the light on 24/7

Thats not true - you can pull a bird back from the brink of death in some cases - yes he will need the light all the time until feeling better.

What bird medications do you have on hand?

You said his face is dirty, does that mean he has been vomiting?

Also how skinny is he?

The messy face sounds like he has been throwing up, a sign of megabacteria and also another sign of canker. Combined with the pooey bottom and the messy face does sound like he may have megabacteria, which kicks in after they have been sick with something else that has brought them down. Have you cleared the gunk off his bottom, and given him some suplha meds to stop the runny poos.

I dont know what kind of vet you saw, but ina way he was right. Blue is showing signs of being past that point. But as long as their is life there is hope.

Lamp, meds, and he needs to be crop fed. If you cant crop feed, anyone who can for you ?

Um my birds have never been sick before so I don't have anything except for mite spray and worming stuff. He is not skinny he has always been a normal weight for a budgie even now. He has seed on his face not sure if he has been vomiting it looks more like un eated seed to me he has had some corn and hes drinking the normal amount of water.

Feel his crop as you need to know if there is a decent amount of food in there as budgies do pretend to eat when sick.

I would say he has been vomiting :(

Try giving some raspberry cordial (the real stuff) - might help perk him up a little if he'll take it. Keep him well away from Molly and clean everything.

Do I shine it on him or on the blanket covering the cage?

Put the lamp next to the cage so he feels the warmth. Not the blanket...warm him up.

His crop feels fine and the seed is not sticking to his face anymore as the seed was a bit damp from the moisture from the corn Grandma had put into it

Then if he is eating, hasnt lost weight, isnt vomiting, and all he has is a pooey bottom, then treat him for the pooey bottom as suggested. Warm Lamp, sulpha meds, if no sulpha meds, give him a few drops of apple cider vinegar or raspberry cordial in his water. Not red cordial pretend raspberry but the real stuff.

Will the light bother him if I leave it on all night, he will be able to sleep with a light on?

Yes he will be fine with the light on. If the light bothers him it means he is getting better :(

Use the Apple Cider Vinegar!

And keep the light on it won't bother him .....

Was she in the same cage as him ? Keep an eye on her if she was .....

She was until Grandma noticed him not being his usual self and then rang me and I told her to put him into the hospital cage that was yesturday morning he is eating heaps, the seed is being husked properly. Were do you get Apple Cider Vinegar? from the local super market??Also the seed seems to be starting to stick to his beak again, I haven't noticed him vomiting but each time he puts his beak into he seed it sticks to his beak. He has been preening himself which seems good, how do you tell if he is not liking the lamp being on him?? and is there any extra care I can give that will help him in any way. Im going down to the shop tomorrow to get some more seed and to get the Apple Cider Vinegar / real raspberry cordial. Which works the best and can anyone tell me a name of the real raspberry cordial as I have never heard of real cordial before. Also Im going to ring my avian vet in Thornlands in the morning as Grandma rang an avian vet somewere else and see of I get a different answer and try and book him in for a vet appointment cause Im really not wanting to lose another budgie as Blue is my favourite

Apple Cider Vinegar Grab from the Supermarket. If you can get the organic one even better ...

Put 1 teaspoon of the ACV to 500mls of water and then add that mixture to his water bowl ...

ACV Controls most gram-negative and yeast problems without medications, turn papillomas white.

Makes sure that you wash & Disinfect your hands thoroughly after dealing with him ....

Are you able to go back to another Avain vet?

Ask grandparents, parents or neighbours. Someone will have apple cider vinegar in their cupboard :(

Knock on your neighbours door Ask if someone can get you some ,...Keep him warm and calm ....Where are you?If you are close I can come over ....

Been to nieghbours they said they would go to the shop and get some hes back up on his perch again but I don't know wether he will last the night

okay when they get back make up a mixture -

1 TEASPOON to 500mls of water

Then try and offer it to him ......

I hope Blue perks up -

You may most likely find that he stopped eating (or ran out of food) at your grandparents place.

For now, give him what you can then let him rest for the night. Having the light on will encorage to eat more too. In the morning you will know what is going to happen with him - if he is brighter in the morning it will mean he had a period of no food which in my view is the most likely cause of his symptoms.

I live with my Grandparenst so I don't think he would have run out of food by anyway unless Molly was being her bosy self and pushed him out

Cara the vinegar will help settle a budgies upset tummy, but it wont save a budgie that is so sick it is dying. We dont know exactly how sick your budgie is. Only you do. BUT please dont think the vinegar will save its life if it is too far gone :(
