Posted October 4, 200816 yr Bought myself one of those things for recycling your seed (removing husks), plus 3 tiel nest boxes and a older style budgie show(practice) cage all for less than $50. This is the bird seed saver:
October 4, 200816 yr Author I have to get myself one of those bagless vacuum cleaners now as you power it with a vacuum cleaner, and it would cost me a fortune in vac bags otherwise
October 4, 200816 yr Author Apparently you put a vacuum cleaner nozzle inthe top and pour the seed in and the husks are light so they get sucked up and the seed falls into the drawer at the bottom
October 4, 200816 yr MB, I was just today thinking about how much seed I waste because of good seed being thrown away with husks, where do I get one
October 4, 200816 yr Author I've seen them at the bird sales, AV and I were trying to remember, I think they were about $70 maybe more. Wait till I pick mine up, we might be able to make them
October 4, 200816 yr Melbourne, you have been given the wrong information. You pour the seed in the open V & the clean seed drops out under the V & the husks drop into the box,you will only get a very little dust in your vac bag, just give it a try & you will see how it works.
October 4, 200816 yr Author I must say Macka it didn't seem right to me I've seen them at the bird sales and I didn't recall that being the explanation there. I'm picking it up next weekend so I'll be able to have a proper look then.
October 4, 200816 yr Bonus bargain for that price and will help you save money too Here is plans for one on the net of anyone wants to try and make one. http://www.buzz.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/winnow.htm
