I picked up Dante today, the second I saw him I knew I had to have him because he colour is amazing. Like I said in my ealier post he looks to be a really dark purple colour so I am guessing he is a violet? I really would like to get some chicks that are the same as him so what type of hen would I need? I tried to understand Daz's topic on violets but couldn't wrap my head around it, so some advice in layman"s terms would be great please :D

Get him a cobalt hen :)

Forget that...the hen you got with him is fine :D

Ohhh good :), I was hoping that she would do but I wasn't sure about how dark the hen should be, she is abit darker than her picture shows though

she seems to be a skyviolet.

I agree with Kaz they are both violets.

If you can post a picture of the hen without flash and in the natural sunlight that helps with the taking of the blues.

Merlin is a violet too just like your bird and I agree it is such a gorgeous blue.

There are double factor violets and single factor violets so if you pair 2 violets together you 25% chance of a double factor Violet, 50% chance of Single Factor Violet and then 25% Chance of No Violet Carrying but a Blue bird.

Violet is an added color which enhanced the 3 types of blues sky, cobalt and mauve but it is BEST seen visually on a cobalt which is what the male is.
