Good news Renee

Mmmmm. I had words with the Violet last night and it seems to have done the trick! :glare:

I totally believe this. Noone would dare go against a stern talking to from you...not even a budgie.

I remember when I was a kid, my Dad would show the axe to a hen that didnt lay eggs and she was laying again in no time !! :)

**UPDATE***This pair DSCF3711.jpg have their first egg.
6 eggs to this pair now
7 eggs now BUT I had to remove one of the eggs as either parent had tried to shift it by beak. There were two definite beak marks in it and the shell was cracked in the two beak mark areas. Three showing fertile already, others possible.......so back to 6 eggs again.

Doing well girls

we all have those bad days in the breeding room I have had heaps. Been a really bad year. ;)

3rd chick of Violet & Spangle dead in the nest. :D

Removed well fed chickie and replaced with 2 day old foster chick. Let's hope the last fertile egg hatches AND is fed. :hap:

DSCF5253.jpg hen is preparing the nestbox. Both birds very cosy with each other.

I always knew this Violet was trouble - if she weren't such a good looker I would have happily wrung her neck today. :)

Transferred chickie wasn't fed and she chucked the last remaining fertile egg out.

I have moved them both to a 'summer' breeding cage. Maybe they'll go down again.

Hens  They are so much more trouble than the filled with lust boys ................ any way, fingers crossed for the rest. We had better do a recap on this topic.

okay. Recap: at this end I started with 3 pairs but one of my hens (probably the sister to the horrid Violet :) ) didn't like Kaz's magnificent Recessive Pied, so he went home.

So I was left with 2 pairs:

Violet & Spangle laid 4 fertile eggs, first chick died-not fed; second chick quickly transferred to a foster nest and doing well; third chick died - not fed; fourth chick didn't have a chance to hatch as Violet chucked the egg out.

Lutino & Olive have laid 8 eggs to date and while I thought 3 were fertile I can only see 1 definitely fertile egg. Maybe something will show through - HUH!

Third chick hatched to the recessive pied pair today...thats it for them.

Here they are.

Eldest chick in this nest so far all pure yellow pin feathers. Surprising since it had black eyes at hatching and no sign of the plum eyes of a recessive.

yay!! for your new baby!! B)

Your yellow chick is interesting - i look forward to seeing what it develops into :)

Nothing's happening with the Lutino and Olive, the eggs that looked promising have developed a ring inside, so my guess is they're addled.

I have popped 2 foster chicks in with them and they're doing a wonderful job of feeding them. Here's hoping raising a round will bear fruits - you never know it did with my best Lutinos.

Some chicks from the recessive hen and split recessive cock.

And in the RECESSIVE PIED NEST this recessive chick of Renee's has the better markings. The eldest two have light markings and this chickie has more showing up. Thats a good thing
