Posted September 29, 200816 yr CAn someone remind me what the possibilities are for what this might mean? I have a hen who laid her first egg yesterday and it has quite alot of blood streaked over it. She's healthy, well fed, supplemented, etc
September 29, 200816 yr I have not experienced it, but in reading i believe it is okay if it only happens once or twice. Keep a close eye on her as she may be struggling with passing the eggs and might be a risk to egg binding in the future.
September 29, 200816 yr Author Well this is her first breeding so I'll just watch at this stage. Thanks
September 29, 200816 yr It is quite common for the first egg of a young hen to have a bit of blood on it and it is usually nothing to worry about. A small blood vessel has probably broken when she passed the egg. Just watch to see that she doesn't bleed too much
September 29, 200816 yr My Boris' first egg which she thought was nice to lay in my hand was streaked in blood. I've not had it happen with her since so think it was just a first egg thing. I've had the odd touch of blood on a hens egg but not much and not often.
September 29, 200816 yr I agree with Neville on this one. When Angle first laid an egg she had a bit of blood on it - There were no problems with her and still to this day there are none - Think of it this way The Size of an egg - the size of their who who
