Buying Budgies

Featured Replies

Hi

I was wondering if it's a good idea to buy

budgies at a market where some people

set up their own stores and that kind of thing?

I'm not sure whether to name the market or not

bye bye

I would stear clear of markets. They aren't the best place to buy animals... along with many pet shops. I'd be looking into buying a young budgie from a breeder. Where abouts in Australia are you from? I'm sure someone on here would be able to help you out :D

The birds you buy from the market won't definately be bad bad but as you can't see what sort of conditions they are coming from it can be very pot luck. Why don't you ask the person at the market if you can come and visit them and buy a bird off them another time. That way you can check out their set up :D

The Adelaide markets etc are not a good idea for getting budgies.

Great Idea MB -

I agree with what has been said - I have had sooo much issues with markets

( not from buying but from looking at the birds) and stall holders telling the wrong information

to buyers and etc - Best to Buy from a breeder ;) Also it won't cost you an arm a leg and maybe a few toes :D

the prices from pet shops are ridiculous

Yeah that's why I suggested a visit instead, if I was going to a market to sell other stuff I might take some birds with me too to sell...

Personally I'd probably take some photos of my set up, etc as well though

Budgiegirl, Liv lives north of Adelaide and I live South. Neither of us have babies to sell right now, but in a couple of months, we both will. If you are still looking at that time, I am sure one of us would be happy to help you

You Bet  first bub due on Thurs - you can watch them grow up and get them already tamed ;)

Another factor is that a bird may become very stressed in a market situation and become ill due to this stress. You are safer to get from a breeder or a recommended pet store.

Depends on the bird though AV, can you imagine any of my birds getting stressed in a busy market  It would probably be like a relaxing holiday compared to my house
